When the Bible Says GOD did this and ordered that. Maybe their just talking about what occured in nature at that point in time within GOD((life)the universe). The Bible wasn't written in english so the wording can be a little tricky and metaphorical. Umm. But yeah all is well in the end. So someone kills you, you were gonna die anyways. And in any how. The sun has seen every murderer suffer and die. Usually suffering through vanity. so It all works itself out. I could never find good logic behind violence, but death is just population control. But dont get me wrong you know live long and prosper right.
Actually, I think there'd be more Christians. Many Atheists don't even know a thing of the Bible, and make claims like "the Bible's full of Contradictions", or "Christians are evil, they killed so many people.', eventhough they obviously have no knowledge of it ( just caught someone saying it, and thought, 'if a person says something negative about a religion, they must be right.'), and they call Christians 'ignorant'. For instance, if you've actually read the Bible with attention to the obvious, you'd know that He's not only a God of love, but also a just God. If a person's a judge, and one of his friends (say, Jack) is in court, he can't just say "Okay, Jack won anyways, I don't care what he did. He's my buddy, he can do what he wants." (eventhough he didn't let the other person talk) Would that be just?
You know what i love? You know these oppressed people who live in countries with constant revolution/rioting/police brutality. I just saw a video a man getting the shit beat out of him by these military swatt type guys..well God supposedly knows the course of everbody's life. So he knows that this guy lives in a foreign country where Christianity is hardly known, knows he knows nothing about Jesus, and puts him through this torture of being beaten and possibly killed by police. What part of Gods loving plan was this man? A man who quite possibly never heard the word of Jesus, living a life amongst violence. Why would God forsake this man?
Because the man can't call God, God can only help people if there's a 'link'. (except in special occasions when he tries to prove himself. Every person has a chance to here about Jesus.) You can't call the police without a phone, right?
Guess you'd have to go back to the book of Job for this one. All I can tell you is the people I've met with the most heart have always been those who have gone through the most shit.
Sounds like a bunch of sophistry after what I posted. People trying to "save" the "Saviour" with their own "brand" of Christianity. Bullshit. How can we in the year 2005 swallow, wholeheartedly and seriously, a bunch of fables and superstitions especially when they are based on a "god" (created by a bunch of bitter fools in order to keep people in line) who murderers, pillages, rapes, slaughters, and generally fucks up the world by his bullshit commandments and laws and then turns around and nails his own "son" to a tree to appease his hostilities to man. BUT!!!! Some how bad shit keeps on happening and its ALL Adam the apple-eater's fault, not "god". There is no logic in this. There is a bunch of linguistic and philosophical gymnastics by the god lappers to save their god from annihilation, but it's too late. There is no GOD, never has been. The only god is in your brain, the one you create with your own lies and self-deception. That's why all these people have a different idea or version of Christianity, because they are "REAL" Christians and the other guys are false prophets, etc... Ok, with 1 million different versions of Christianty, and several THOUSAND other religions, which fucking one is right?? I don't have 1,000 years to sift through all the information to check. So, I say based on all the evidence (or lack thereof) and actions of the religious, that they are ALL WRONG and it's ALL BULLSHIT. Thank you.
Quite possibly. Could be that every religion's perception of god is inaccurate or at least incomplete. Or put it this way; if God is everything (the Universe, the Alpha and Omega, Love, Life, Reality) then of course any human perception of Him/Her/It is going to be incomplete. We don't understand the universe, just a little bit of it, like having one small peice of a jigsaw puzzle. So how can we judge it? And if there is a plan to it all it's way beyond our comprehension so how do we know what part each event is playing in it? That being the case how can we determine good from bad? Maybe the worst thing that happens to you today turns out to be the best thing that ever happened to you in retrospect tommorow; Say You get hit by a bus and can't work for a year--bad right? Except that in that year, with all the free time you have while you're recuporating you get bored and write a book. You wind up selling your book, making a nice living, and realise in the meantime you hated your old job anyway. So getting hit by that bus was a good thing right? What I'm saying is you can't read one page from a novel (not talking about the bible here but I guess you could apply it to that too) and decide if it's a tragadey, a comedy, an epic, or just a lot of garbage that makes no sense at all. In order to call any event good or bad we'd have to be able to see everything that came from it and everything that ever will.
More sophistry. God is everything, eh? Ok, pantheism. God is the Universe....Christians resort to pantheism because their theistic arguments get squashed in a hurry. LOL Universe is the whole of existing things. The Universe is, of course, natural. Since nothing can transcend the "whole of existing things", then that means that this "god" is either in the Universe or IS the Universe...so, why the fuck call it God?? Why "pray" to the Universe? No we don't KNOW everything, but everything we do KNOW was discovered through experimentation, logic and/or science. Every mystery that has now been explained has been explained naturally, not "supernaturally". Even the so-called mysteries ONCE explained by the supernatural.
Some books for you: God the Evidence I don't have the Faith to be an Atheist The Case for a Creator All written by former Atheists, Scientific evidences, and very well written. But you probably wouldn't even bother checking them out.(you're fear of having to admit there is a God will probably hold you back, I know). Anyways, what did that have to do with anything we said? And all Conservative 'Christianities' are true. The only difference is the way they teach, and more or less emphesis is put on different things.
Here's a few for you: ATHEISM: THE CASE AGAINST GOD by George H. Smith RELIGION EXPLAINED by Pascal Boyer AGE OF REASON by Thomas Paine THE DEMON-HAUNTED WORLD by Carl Sagan TRANSCENDENTAL TEMPTATION by Paul Kurtz
we technically KNOW nothing because nothing can be proven through science, only disproven... and what do you mean "cannot transcend 'the whole of existing things'"?
No offense, sweetheart, but I graduated from a Christian Academy (with honors) and studied to be an Evangelist/Christian Apologist. In 2000, I had my own radio show on Christian AM station in Chattanooga, TN. I have taught on the subject for over years as well. However, once I studied the OTHER SIDE without the FILTER of the Christian lens. And straight-forward reading from the point of view of the author, I realized that a lot of what the Christians such as Strobel, C.S. Lewis and Josh McDowell were MISREPRESENTING atheists and their viewpoint. Finally, I realized which one made more sense. Guess?
Why call it god? I can't think of one good reason. Call it the Universe then, or Steve, or whatever floats you boat. Christians will tell you you have to call it Jesus but I'm not convinced of that yet (I'm looking in to it). But whatever it is it's power. As far as "why pray"? Try it and find out.
Not hardly. Did I mention MYTHOLOGY, WORLD HISTORY, RELIGIOUS HISTORY and PHILOSOPHY. Also, my psychology classes were very intriguing. I came to the conclusion (thus far) that I find no reason to believe in the supernatural. Not because I KNOW everything, but because there is NO evidence that is convincing enough to me to embrace it for myself. Many people can just embrace or accept anything because they want to embrace and accept it. So they do. They WANT to feel there is a God who loves them and watches them all the time, so they believe it. I don't need to feel that, so I don't.
