the entire knowledge of the real world and even the entirety of
pure self-knowing needs a mythic device to hold it . one such is
a meta-library in the etheric sky realm . do you hold the pure
entirety of self-knowing ? no forgetfulness . no repression .

i'll propose a mythic device - it's just a sparkle of life light that
you may command to illuminate the self as you Will . oh , it's
good enough for me . i'd puke if i had to read the book . i'd
    puke from dizziness .

It would seem to me that religious discussion was going on long before you "started it".

Maybe that is your default position. I would think that God might have a different default position. Also man only created God if God doesn't exist but if God exists, then it was God that created man.

The believer has no need to prove anything. God's existence is between the you and God not between the believer and you.

You speak of credulity not faith. Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld.

As for your statement "if there was true evidence for God's existence everyone would believe without question", there is plenty of "true" evidence that men landed on the moon, yet not everyone believes that.

Whether God exists or not isn't the question we should be asking. Maybe He/She/It does exist. I don't care, personally. It's an irrelevant proposition.

The fact is, life operates as if God does not exist. Whether God exists or not, 2+2=4. Science, medicine, electricity all operate on known principles and laws, whether or not there is a God. Laws, politics, and economics take the courses they take regardless of the existence of a God.

Given this, the question is "should we base our society on the assumption that there is a God, even though it works just fine under the assumption that there isn't?" And the answer to that question is surely, "No." Not only because it's dishonest to impose a system based on a reality you can't prove even exists, but because there would be no perceivable benefit to doing things your way even if you could prove it.

For those who believe God exists, we and those "laws" and "truths" you mention only exist because God continues to power them and without God they would not exist.

As for doing things "our" way, if people actually followed the principles God has asked us to follow, this world would be greatly benefited by a lack of hatred, crime and war and those things would be replaced by love, kindness and helpfulness.

So the only difference from the "hale bop" guy and Christianity, is the number of people that believe? An interesting theory...there was a story about six months or so ago about a preacher, all of a sudden realizing that he no longer believed in christ. Somewhere in Pennsylvania or New York.

Yes, because when Religion gets in control of government, things always turn out for the best. For everyone.

See: Iran, Saudi Arabia, Medieval Europe, Salem Mass. circa 1620, Kansas, etc.

No but the more that believe and put into application God's principles the better off the world would be.

The question you are failing to ask is which religion was involved in these cases? Did Jesus attempt to set up a political party or overthrow the Romans or authorize his followers to do so? Jesus said that his followers were to be no part of this world, thus nonpolitical.

And if they don't believe or put it into application, I suppose we should stone them or lock them up. All evil in the world is because people don't believe, after all, so let's just keep all that in prison.

I mean, sure it's sad when a gay man is beaten to death by a bunch of hillibillies because they disapprove of where he puts his penis, but if he'd just be straight, there'd be no problem. It's his fault!

It was sad when outcast women were executed for witchcraft, but it wasn't the religious people's fault. All the women had to do was just show up for Bridge Club and be Productive Citizens™ and nothing would have happened.

Seriously. I think you are confusing "religion fixes things" with "religion eliminates individuality and diversity."

Manifest destiny commited genocide on an entire race and forced the few remaining to give up their religions and convert.

No, the problem is that with "God," people are responsible to a higher power who never directly influences anything. Religion takes all responsibility to your fellow humans away. If you want to be an asshole, you can justify that because it's easy to twist scripture whichever way you want. And it's fine, because hey -- if people object, they're just people. God is the one who matters, and he is silent on everything.

Morality based on invisible friends turns people into monsters, because they believe their actions can be justified regardless of actual physical reality and real fellow humans. Morality based on mutual respect for other people is immeasurably superior, because it means your ultimate judges are staring you down in person.

If you want to but as a Christian I am not authorized to do so.
If a person follows God's principles they will not do evil. It doesn't matter whether they believe or not, it is whether they live within the principles or not.
No, Christian principles do not allow for Christians to beat homosexuals or anyone to death.
Again Christian principles do not allow for Christians to execute witches or anyone for that matter.
No, actually you are blaming the evil people do and blame on God with what God actually wants us to do.

That's all well and good, unfortunately religious evil is just a natural by-product of humans banding together and acting in the interests of their religion. The Pilgrims fled persecution for their religious beliefs and came to the new world. But, once here, they resorted to similar persecution of outsiders -- justified by their religion.

Religious people just can't help but be monsters in large numbers. It's just the nature of religion (many other philosophies too, to be sure, but definitely religion). When you say people would simply be good if they followed God's will, what you're also saying is that when people are not good, it's because they're not following God's will. And from there it's not even a whole step to "let's make everyone do God's will, then."

Slurpie, you have such a subjective and one-sided (negative) fixated view on religion you seem to go off topic.
