to each their own of course, but he thought portraits looked stupid and ugly and boring, and of the few things i would agree with, that is one of them.
Because we can. Because it doesn't matter if he thought portraits were boring, that doesn't give him or his followers the right to tell me or anyone else what we can or can't draw. Even if it's against their religion. Even if it's offensive to them.
^ given the low level of culture in Arabia at the time he lived, I wonder if he'd ever seen a portrait? Certainly not a realistic one I assume.
create a competing search engine? i've always assumed that bing must have been created by some sort of terrorists. no serious business person would create such a horrible search engine.
It seems that in the past some Islamic cultures did have pictures of Muhammed. On this page there are Ottoman, Persian and Afghani illustrations showing him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depictions_of_Muhammad.
