Irminsul seemed slightly sceptical about climate change - but then mentioned she felt sorry for the polar bears. I presumed she felt sorry for them because of the issues you mention. I was going to ask why was that happening. Perhaps because of normal seasonal variations over time? I was hoping for 'climate change'.
It was a little bit sly, but only a little bit - I wasn't forcing any opinion onto Irminsul.

I'm not sure what exactly is causing the polar ice to decrease (warmer temps ok but how and why) either but we could say it is simply because of climate change :p It seems plausible this change is global but I am not convinced it is natural or industrial or whatever reason. But although I don't know what is causing the climate change I do know I feel very sorry for the polar bears too.

Do you remember CFC's and the growing hole in the ozone-layer? Do you know anything about Nitrous oxide?

I feel sorry for them, too.

The earth has cyclical weather patterns but you would have to be an idiot to not recognize that humans have a huge impact on the environment.

    That is all.

It's all that damn Punxsutawney Phil's fault! Early spring my ass!

We need to hire Bill Murray to hijack him and drive him off a cliff in a morbid yet hilarious sequence of events.

Yes, I remember and know a bit of that but do not know with certainty those are the causes for the decreasing polar ice. It is certain we have a huge and overall bad impact on the environment but the climate change might just be part of some weird cycle. It can also be caused by us. I'm not sure. I'm all for limiting our negative impact anyway though.

Yeah, I feel the same way. It's has to be better all round to have a clean environment rather than a stinkin' dirty one, and for us to value the energy/resources we use.

Polar bears are one of my favorite animals. I'm not skeptical on climate change because just because I don't feel it here doesn't mean it's not happening. I live high so winter is always cold and I can see the ice receding from documentary satellite photos so its happening.

Does it normally start getting warmer towards the end of March in the Netherlands? Just curious... Here in north-eastern USA, the temperature starts getting slightly warmer in April. May is usually when we start experience much warmer weather (very beautiful month). I think everything will be fine...lol.

Also, tell the Dutch (soccer) national team to step there game up! lol ..sorry had to say something w/ you being from Netherlands. They did horrible in the Euro cup..love Holland tho! :sunny:

Fair enough. You just sounded a little skeptical - that's all.

You know, back in the early 90's, back when there was a lot of compelling scientific evidence proving climate change, nobody doubted it. Now twenty years of concrete multidisciplinary data of atmospheric and ocean temperatures and ice core samples proving global temperature for thousands of years confirming climate change.

And people are so easily dissuaded by a pr campaign against climate change, that they won't read fucking book. It wouldn't be a big deal. People being that stupid, except for some reason, we live in a democracy. Your ignorance is truly a detriment to the entire world guys. Congratulations.

Yeah I remember reading stuff in the early 90s about what the polar ice caps would look like in 20 years, and they were spot on.

 Not in my experience. If anything people seem to be more accepting that climate change is real and that we might have something to do with it. Back in the 90's the 'green movement' was regarded as a new marketing scheme and global warming was another big joke for lots of people. I think it's great to see that although there are lots of schemes as well lots of companies are working on changes to reduce our negative impact on the environment.

I'm not giving a yay or nay on global warming.. although I did attend a very convincing symposium in college.

But it should be beach weather right now. Today I wore long pants, two shirts, a jacket and beanie. And was still cold as balls in the shop.
