I did that with Leonard Cohen last year. All your towers are nothing to what I put myself through....
bah - looks like good weather ( i was not secretly doing a rain dance ) hope everyone has a good time !
it was a very odd Glastonbury in that most of us didn't meet up we all camped in different places, It was the first one Ive ever worked which was interesting, I met a bunch of new people but its sad to not see the old people and how we have all gone off , I suppose thats what happens . I enjoyed it more than last glastonbury but thats not saying much , saw a fan parachute flying the site which was fun for a few minutes running after it to see if we could help but it didnt land . Im seriously tired the effects of not eating or sleeping and carrying heavy things miles around site and trying to find my nephew with a very nice pole dancer . I stayed on site till 11 at night trying to find tom also I picked up a thermarest and thermarest clone and some very expensive fancy camping equipment . likely all the exercise will have done me good but at the moment I feel like someone whose gone through a sort of endurance event , I didnt drink or do any drugs . glastonbury is stange in that if lets say you camped above the pyramid stage and just kept in the more babylon areas you would think its one thing , if you camped say in the dragon field and stayed mostly in the green fields you would think its another .
Yes Jonny is right, very strange for there to be lots of mutual friends and hipforums people there old and new and not to actually meet any of them. Saw Sal for a short time on Thursday which was nice, but other than Jonny and his sister, some old green steward friends and some new friends, that was it. In times past there has been a mass communal base camp where it's a big group of friends all enjoying things together, it's a shame that real life uk hipforums community seems to have totally disappeared now. I enjoyed the festival but it was mostly work, with a couple of half days to have a look around. Black Eyed Peas headlining the Jazz World stage on Sunday night was my musical highlight, Fleet Foxes were quite nice, and it was great to see Tunng on Sunday at the Park stage again. Wondered why I ever liked Blur as a teenager...
I camped with the Efestivals camp triangle which is a lovely community and I'm glad I did. I was drunk from 6pm each day, took one silly thing on Saturday which was fun for about 2 hours but I then felt miserable so had 3am chips and went and sat in the communal teepee. I saw loads of amazing bands, was at the front for gaslight anthem, hockey and the prodigy, art brut on sunday morning when I was half asleep were brilliant. I had a lovely day on the Thursday green fielding it for hours on end and chatting to people. Fleet foxes were lovely on the Friday in the sun and the specials and madness were a load of fun. Florence was as amazing as I expected her to be, ended up on someone's shoulders (who then stole my alcohol and nearly dropped me, good times...) I had an absolute blast, would have liked to have met some HFers but saw none at all!
Ah it was a shame not to see all of you properly.. only saw Sal as found him for a band but didn't really get to see you Jon or you Jonny or Taz. Phones were a problem, mine wasn't receiving texts and then the battery died early sunday evening which meant couldn't meet up with you all on the Sunday night which was a total bummer. When shall we all meet again?! Despite that I had a lovely time It past so unbelievably quickly and I think was perhaps one of my best, if not the best, yet. Saw lots of good bands, drank cider and my winebox and boogied the night away... Tuesday at work was a struggle.
Check out my review on The Third Estate website. If you google Glastonbury review it's on the first page! Woo!
It's not spamming, I didn't put a link up. It is, however, shameless self-promotion. Do I care? No, because it's shameless....
