I had 12,000 posts on the old forums, was the second highest poster next to Pressed Rat. Don't know why I'm proud of that. Next to these Jonny Come Lately upstarts now though, we're nobodies....

Glasto bears only a nominal resemblance to what it once was. Sometimes in certain of the fields and little stages (and these seem tokenistic and marginalised) you may sight transient phantoms of the original festival but essentially, it's aq celebration of selfish individualism - especially since the advent of 'dance' acts being on the programme (a couple of DJ's nodding their headights behind a stack of equipment really doesn't speak musical entertainment to me - yay! great sunglasses solo man!).

From being a festy where, notionally, people went to have a good time with like-minded folks (that's folks who shared a vaguely similar political and ethical mindset), it has travelled to a place of cold-hearted corporatism, which means the priority is to achieve punter numbers above all other consideration (150k is just too many to camp in a field with - it's been calculated 80k is the ideal max), and I wouldn't doubt that there is a sizeable section of that 150k whom I -and many on these boards- would have absolutely nothing in common with and, moreover, would cross the street to avoid.

I don't know why we can't have a thread about Glasto without die-hard old timers grumbling about how things were so much better in their day. I still enjoy the festival and I'm not all that fussed if it's not as good as it used to be during the waawer....

Ive finally registered - so you can stop worrying jonny :p

    Reason im posting is..

every year i think "wouldnt it be nice if we had a gazebo or some other such shelter". Something to make a real nice camp.. and some shelter if/when it rains other than a hot stuffy tent..
So can anyone fulfil my glasto dream? x

Your tent putting up skills are abysmal Jonny. I saw the mess you made of that orange thing you gave Spliffking. Kat had to save it before he drowned. Don't know why I'm defending her. Maybe it's because you were mighty rilesome about not coming to find us when we arrived last year....

I can vouch for that, it was a mighty fine spot on high ground and we had it all taped off...

    May I defend myself?

    a) I am good at putting up tents and do not need to proov'e it by putting up YOUR tent Jonny - youre just lazy
    b) your tent spot was good last year...but not large enoughj
    c) thank you sal
    d) jonny - you always have extensive waterproof gear
    e) Where the hell is spliffking

Spliffking might be dead. It's something we have to consider. And yep, the space you saved was far too tiny Jonny. We had a horde of Irish to accomodate. No one ever thinks of the Irish....
