for me its my dog... if I sit on the floor and look into her eyes and hug her like I would anything. they love it. if you have a small animal you can give a kind of bear hug..
I used to hug my dog. had him for about 15 years but he died a about 4 or 5 years ago, stomach tumor. Got him fro mthe pound when he was just a baby
the family dog we had tell he was 15 died in December. We also rescued him. Not from a shelter but someone left him and the dentist office took him in. My mother went in to get some work done and we took him home. We think he was a year old at the time.
Every time I hug my dog he gets mouthy. He'll come up and lick my face and all that but it's on his terms, when we want to be loving it's all open mouth for him. When I'm laying on the couch and he's indoors and I tell him to come up, he'll lay with me and have his legs and paws on me or over me. That's pretty much as peaceful as it gets. Considering he's very protective of his paws and feet in general it's in this state and moment I think he is submissing and being compassionate towards us.
If I lay down and watch a movie Deja will lay next to me and I rub behind her ears and such as I watch the film... then at one point always during a movie ill stop just cause I been focusing more on the movie. Then she gets up and gets right in my face and basically says can I lay in your lap as I kiss you in front of the tv.... girl common sit down lol.
I hug all my stuffed animals all the time. I have my polar bear and elephant and goat and big dog on my bed right now.
