I don't really like the way they look on anyone at all but I don't think they shouldn't be considered dreads

Unless the purpose of the fringe is to hide your dreads

But it's not dreads. And no one I know says they're dreads.

It's just loose, unknotted, normal hair. That looks good. That helps them achieve what ever they want to achieve with it. And most importantly, that they like. Nothing seems wrong with that.

The rest of it is dreads.

I can't speak from experience, but keeping the front unknotted and messed up with the surrounding dreads I'd imagine to require effort. Which to do for a long time would be commitment.

i definitely would consider myself someone with locks. i still have got a bunch of loose hairs esp around my face. i dont think i could hide my dreads with it tho because the locks themselves are too prominent to be hidden. just my hair has a harder time locking up in the front. i went neglect tho i did have to kinda play with them to get some of the front locking up. i just like to let my hair do its thing and if its gonna be so stubborn then whatevs. i dont care. plus, who died and made you the expert on who should be considered dread heads? i think we all are dreadies.... past present and future :) peace n love

My "fringe" and loose hairs under my dreads will not dread. It doesn't get knotted with the rest, it just stays loose, and I don't really brush it or anything.

stop hatin. you aren't the expert on what dreadlocks are or are not. i have my bangs/fringe unlocked bc i like the way it looks and the rest are monstrosities that you probably could never compare to. so, move the fuck on and worry about your own damn head.

It's not that girls with dreads don't look hot, it's that no hot girls get dreads.

a lot of good looking girls get dreads, most of them just don't go neglect though so they aren't sexy

In regards to OP: All 3 previous sets of dreads had the front hair loose simply because my forehead is so big it could eat the world whole if it was completely exposed.

I debated leaving my bangs loose on this set. But then said "what the hell" and backcombed/crocheted them tonight. I figure they're only tight for a little while and then they'll soften up and loose hair will pop out anyway. And if I decide that I look like an alien or something with my humungo forehead, I can always just comb it out.

I think most girls leave the front out because it's more feminine. It's more for fashion, and to be judged less harshly for things like jobs. I do have to admit that pulling my hair back while leaving the front out usually made people completely clueless about the rest of my hair. They just simply weren't looking past the front. I'm sure that helps a lot of people who otherwise would encounter nothing but negativity.

I don't know about other girls, but I do know that I had a hell of a time deciding how I wanted to do the front - whether I wanted a middle part, side part, no part. But then no part kind of puts 1 dread in the middle of your forehead and it kind of looks weird when you leave your dreads down. I don't know. This is something I've thought about a lot and still can't make my mind up about what looks best/is easiest to deal with.

I have bangs for versatility. I didnt have bangs for the first 1.5 years and got sick of my damn forehead everytime I had my hair up. I love my bangs/fringe. Bizzness in the front and party in da back.

Ooooo I love dreads on women and men. I really get attracted a fancy men with dreads aswell so I often go for men with dreads hehe! I did get dreads for about a week but I brushed them out because I love my natural hair too much which is very thick and curly!

I personally hate the look. If you're locking naturally and the back locks first, that's one thing, but I hate the 2 inch, manicured fringe look. It looks so silly.... The only thing I see going for it is that you do look more traditionally "respectable". But if that's a concern, you should probably just wait until you're established at a job to lock anyway.

About girls with neglect dreads.... I don't think I've ever seen them... Seen a FEW sets online, when exploring the other wax free backwaters of the internet, but I love crazy messy half locked hair with huge congos and all the rest, I personally see the fact that girls tend to not neglect as a manifestation of lots of the reasons that I bloody hate, and can not STAND, most girls.

Fringe is also a term used in golf to describe that thicker bit of grass outlining the green.

    I could be wrong though.

Also, this weekend I heard that "kid with guns" track from the gorillaz and I subtituted the kids with guns with girls with dreads. It fit. Talk about a healthy subconcious.

Uhm....pure neglect dreads on men are rare as well....not as rare on women...but rare enough. Im sorry you have your panties in a knot over most girls. 19 year old boy angst is the worst. Not as bad as 28 year old girley pms angst...but I can sympathize with you. Meh. Im bloody and need coffee. Toodles.
