I've got to put my input on this one again.... For the person who said (i don't feel like quoting, so i'm just gonna say it off the top of my head) that people are simply stating that having a ghetto/hippy name has effected their lives in ways they don't like.... evreyones name affects them in some way they don't like... Think of having the last name Green (making fun names would be:gangreen, greenbean, snot, etc) or Gove (Gopher) My last name is German, i got made fun of for it quite a bit. My first name is considered to be a black person's name. The name Terry or Jason could get made fun of too! first, middle and last names, no matter what they are..kids will almost always be teased about at least one of them. As for getting a job, IMO your NAME doesn't affect your chance of getting anything such as. Even a house or a loan. It's all about the personality and way of carrying yourself (and the way you dress, sadly) that can impose on getting a job, etc. blah Just be happy with the name you have... if you don't like it, deal with it...just don't complain constantly and blame it on your NAME that has taken affect for certian things.
I like.... Keira, Skye, River, Imogen, Carrie or Ashleigh 4 a girl & Ethan, Anthony or Jacob 4 a boy.... Boys names are harder than to choose than girlsnames. What do all th peeps think of my choices???? Love n Peace, Tash xxx
Interesting topic, If I may add something? My siblings and I have "Hippie" names. Well, they are not as common as most. We have NEVER received any negativity from them. We all have turned into pretty amazing people. It is up to the person to define their name not let the name define them. Milo Sebastien-Teacher Teja Harmony-Physical therapist Rayni Angelica(me) Own my own business Lakeley Justice-Works with disabled children Sage Weyland-Finnishing his degree in engineering as you can see our names did not stand in the way.
Those are such great names Nice names My faves are Skye, Imogen and River (prefer for a boy though) The boys names are nice, but not really my style. You're right boys names are tough. My girl lists is a lot longer, but then my fave boys names tend to be faves for ages. So it kind of balances out.
i was just watching the Aussie show called Kath and Kim - kind of a pisstake/spoof of the tackiness of suburbia. Anyway Kim is preganant and they are searching for a unique baby name - they consider gems like Lupus and Cardio for a boy and things like Catheter, Tiramusu and Enema for a girl. they also try the 'original spelling' idea, like tiffany spelt Tiphphaniii...it just cracked me up heaps.
Cheers guys... i didn't really expect anybody to like them... It's down to personal choice so no1 can be put dwn for whatever they choose.... Freedom xxx
First of all, to say that a kid is going to grow up and resent their parents the rest of their lives for giving them some hippie name is kinda silly. What about kids who WANT unique names but have names like fucking Jessica, and go to school with 5 other fucking Jessicas? I would love to have a unique name... (...but don't get on my back, 'cause I've read all the views, and I get what everyone's saying...) Secondly...is anyone else realizing how many people have said "I'm going to name my kids Skye, Rayne, Sage, Rivver?" So much for being unique. Everyone tries so hard to be different that we all end up being the same...haha. The names are cool...but I think people are gonna have to work extra hard to think of REALLY unique names soon (oh, the challenge!). Hmm...I think I'll name my kid Shithead Dildo...now no one will have a name like! (...or...will they?) haha. J/k.
hehehe,Blackie. If i ever meet someone who thinks it's cute, to have a child, and they'd do it because it's the popular thing to do right now... i'm going to reach out and give 'em a thump on the head! Did i grasp onto what you were saying there? or were you talking about the names? Heh heh heh. Personally, i used to be one saying "i'm not gonna name a kid that name if i ever have one, because the name is common!" ..but now i've seen that names, no matter what they are.. Jade, Sage, Kelly, Nathan, Damien....hell..you're likely to know a few of them before your lifetime is up.. especially with the generation being brought into the making now! Lilly, Libby, Kira, Sage, Ryver, Storm.. It truly IS like the 60's and 70's are coming back completely... bell bottoms... tye dye being popular, ponchos, and on and on.. it's crazy! I like it
I know a boy named Jupiter and everyone he meets adores him. Of course he has to repeat it a few times because not many people believe that's his name but it really is. He's an extremely charismatic person who is very proud of his name, he makes friends with everyone he meets because he has something that makes him unique and memorable. Personally, I believe how you carry yourself and your confidence is the best thing you have to portray yourself. If you're a confident person with charm, meeting people and introducing yourself as Skyfire Lightning Jones can turn into a great experience, such as giving you guys something to talk and laugh about. It's ok to make fun of yourselves people! Loosen up! For weird names, I knew kids named Boat, Arms, and Art. Were their parents freaky hippies? No. Those are actually very popular names in Thai which is what their backgrounds were. Sure, they probably got teased endlessly, but should they be ashamed that their parents are Thai? No. Same with your children who shouldn't be ashamed that their parents were hippies. It's just who they were and these names meant something to them. Anyways, if you go through life thinking you have hindered yourself from success upon something you could not help then you need to go to read some books about self-esteem and self-discovery. It's about being proud of your heritage/background/lifestyle.
Well, I think Sarah is a beautiful name... haha. It's only your opinion. I think "George" is quite plain but ever since Meg started spelling my name "Jorge" (haha, she even quoted it in her signature) I think it gave it a habanero like zing.
haha.... george is only plain when there's a buncha people named it, and there's not. it's like.... antiquated (okay, i can't spell that ) like... hezechiah. hahaha....
I imagine Hezechiah would be quite plain in rural PA. But, I actually only know two or three Sarahs. I know one other George... well, used to.
