well....brothah.....who said anything about staying unemployed and not doing anything? i, myself, am an artist/musician....and sure as hell do A LOT more than that.....i direct my energy toward positive movements...not fueling the fires of destruction "just because somebody else will do what i dont do"....thats the heart of the sickness of the world right there in that statement...the defeatist attitude this is not a progressive outlook at all. dude.....so much arguement could be given to this comment but lets just start with the basics........energy flow....you put your energies toward good movements and positives will flow into your life, vica versa.......live for yourself, not others ...... & lastly, the "change the system from the inside out" thing.....this is no new idea.....and i think you better look into the thinking behind that ideal.....its no doubt a wise approach, but not surfical by any means....it requires understanding..... no hard feelings bro, im just trying to share the light a little
Temp agencies are a way for corporations to 'hire' people for short periods of time without giving them any benefits or set hours. Often 'temps' earn less money than those actually working for the corp because the agency takes a standard fee right off the top of their income to 'pay' for the service of getting them a job. The corp also pays the temp agency for services. In some cases it's alright and a good way to make some $$ if you're not worried about the 'benefits'. In others it's a hellish existance because you're expected to perform the same job duties as everyone else who might be making twice as much as you are. Temps are also treated like crap alot because they can't come back at the corporation, there's no hire/fire process, thus no accountability. The agency just tells you you're not wanted at that particular place anymore. Areas with a large electronics manufacturing markets are booming with temp agencies.
no government is a feasible alternative. One that we haven't tried yet. I never said the government was responsible for the happiness of it's citizens, but if it makes them unhappy, that can't be good. I place my happiness in the hands of me, and I am amazingly happy. But when capitalism comes into play I definitely feel there's something wrong about it. I see, a temporary job.
I just droped down to working 2 days a week woohoo. I'm such a slackass motherfucker (compared to my normal 60-70 hours of work a week).
yeah bout the happiness issue too, i think u could even have a great job, but just the fact that u have to do things at a certain time and place in a certain timeframe just makes people unhappy at any time. i think all work in general can suck sometimes, but work is what gets things done, so it must be done.
mirakously dead, i was talking to the original poster. he is a 16 year old kid. not many job oppurtunities when ur 16 and go to high school full time i direct my energy towards lots of other things besides my job..... its just too bad that my job is the only thing that pays my bills
ok, Tammee is in a situation where she has desires that do not match the controlling, moneyed powers (the folks who pay the rent/for the food. Her best option is to discover a route that allows her to have the basics without eating her sould to fill her belly. Corporations: I know of good ones. WalMArt is not the end-all be all. Whole Foods MArkets and Wild Oats are corporate, and co-ops don't pay. hmmm.. I need a roof and food and some semblance of clothing. co-op doesn't really pay, Wild Oats does. Guess where I will apply, and join the co-op on the second paycheck (your first always is accounted for before its yours) In my case, I work for a Texas corporation doing business in Colorado. The division has 13 papers here. I write for up to 6. One is my primary responsibility. Its a well-to-do neighborhood that had problems with Kerry signs being taken. Most people wouldn't bother to write about that, and some of the complainer-types, I felt were just adding to the election fire, BUT the voice of the few was being silenced by the many and it was my responsibility to print their stories. I also covered a vigil when the death toll for US troops in Iraq hit 1000. I received hate mail on that one. Luckily, hate mail is a positive in this business. NOW, the down side is the money is not quite enough to pay the rent, power, gas (THANKS, XCEL) fuel/insurance for the old beater that I need for the job. So I 'm looking at a second job, myself. I could quit this and be a corporate whore in marketing/ public relations. I have the skills, but not the wardrobe, and I'm disinclined to, again, eat my soul to fill my belly. BUT the corporate natural groser is hiring. So, what will I do? join the holiday temp ranks and reassesss in January. It's a good time to do just that. you are hired for a few months, you agree to work some evenings, giving you a day or two a week to keep looking. Eventually, the saw "it's easier to get a job when you have a job" comes through. Dropping out is not enough. to fight a system, you need to REALLY understand how it operates. You can "change from within," but look at Congress on that. bad success ratio. Challenging the methods works better.
yay! are you simply sitting (the let the parents go out or work a spare shift, or nannying for 40+ hours a week?(think how you'd sell the skills/experience to the health food store)
one job is a scheduled around 80 hours a month, another one's just an on-call type thing, and the new one should be like 40 hours a week or something.
not bad if they pay! Make sure you make the most of days off. I left a 70+ hour a week gig last summer for one with sane hours. Muuuuuuuuuch better. Hey, that's my sweetie...he's cute...so's my kiddo. (actually I saw them alot but they had to come see me at work)
I wish I could have the job like I had when I lived in VT. I worked maintenance for this big art center. I did everything from snow removal to setting up and packing art exhibits. They just made up a list of stuff that needed to be done and then left us alone. Oh yeah, my supervisor was an ol' Vietnam Vet that was one of the biggest stoners I've ever known. Plus he became one of my best firends. I smoked more at work than I did at home.
hey if you are going to whore, be paid well enough to leave sooner! ;P (now, I reported for the nation's most conservative newspaper after college: The Daily Oklahoman, so I know of what I speak... err... type)
