Sheesh, give the insults a break. He is only 16, and is considering a job...that is far from lazy. Hipster, I've worked for Microsoft in the past, and greatly prefer working for smaller companies. But at 16 you have to start somewhere. I don't know what the job market looks like where you live, but it may be diffucult to find something that isn't retail or fast food at the age you are at (sucks, huh?) but I had friends in highschool that worked for libraries and as secretaries part-time and stuff.
How'd you like working in a library? And how the hell'd you get that job? I'd love to work for my library!
i started working in a library when i was 15, so i suppose you're about the right age. i just went up to the front desk and asked for an application. then i would call and ask to speak to the head librarian, (or just learn their name) and would ask if they knew wheter or not they would be hiring soon. pretty sure i got my job because she wanted me to stop calling every week.... but yeah, that library job was sweet. just hang out there for a bit before, and see if you can get to know some of the "pages" that work there. (they shelve books usually.) it's what you would probably be doing.
I wish I woulda thought of that when I was 16. I was a waitress getting hit on by men 3 times my age constantly
Pay no attention to the incessant grumpy rambling I left. Please, I was a very disgruntled individual at that moment. Here's my real two cents: I think restaurants are the way to go for anyone that wants to roam. Outside of convenience stores, it's the largest job market in the US and it's one of those things that provides instant cash. Sometimes it sucks but you end up meeting cool people etc.... plus there's restaurants all over that are always hiring wanderers. Peace, good luck.
some really kynd replies in this thread....dont see many like this lately.....dont forget about checking out vets & animal hospitals.....usually, no matter where you are there are at least a 1 or 2 of them in the area & usually are very lax about hiring....of course most of em are run by kynd individuals so most dont care about your hair or your dress or your "lifestyle", just so you seem to have a passion for the animals....provides usually a pretty decent income too. i can only speak for the vets in my areas, but they seem to be usually hiring new peeps and most positions you dont have to be an "adult" 4. best advice I have, go to college ..... some people seem to think that college only sends a person into the big ole corporate amerika....not true though.....get an actually interesting and inspiring field for your major....college really does open doors for a great life if you have the right understandings, which it seems you do. dont fall into the norm and pressure to go to college directly after HS. do if you want of course, but its really a good time to take for yourself after HS. You've just finished a defining part of your life, which normally, for most infects them with the superficial world. college is a big step if you choose to take it...sometimes it's good to learn yourself a little bit b4 approaching the whole secondary ed. thing good luck brotha
u guys really crack me up....... the jobs you are talking about at ''big corporations'' are really just slack off jobs given to any joe scmoe on the street. if u turn it down, theyll just hire someone else to do that job, what a ''statement'' you just made...... sorry to break it to u, but if u think ur going to change the world by who you work for, unless you are VERY high in the companies chain of command, ur just fooling urself. just go out and make some money, small business or big business, money is all the same to me
the last 2 posts........ if you cant see past the value of money, maybe you should consider changing your mind....or just care more capitalism sucks, you think its an excuse for being lazy?....that makes 0 fuckin sense....capitalism is the height of greed and laziness....choosing to not live life in the capitalistic world and live as self sufficiently as possible isn't exactly lazy...maybe you should try it how could you ever live right if you support and live in the world of wrong?
your so right. i think ill make a statement by staying unemployed and not doing anything. im obviously kidding, but like i said before, the jobs u would have would not even make a difference if yourself, or some illegal alien performed them. no matter what, there will always be someone to fulfill a job spot. and i would much rather change the system from the inside out (meaning work my way up), than to sit and complain about the system being so unfair. so whatever, if you are making a statement by refusing job offers, then have fun in the process. just so you know though, ANY honest legal job you will have, no matter what the work is, you will be paying taxes and supporting the government and system that u hate so much......
I work for an evil company. They have a room with no cameras where they hold people hostage for a while. When they come out they have a distant and glazed look in their eyes. Those are the people who later get promoted before you too.
Hey, nobody's judging you for not getting a job (I'm not anyway), that's your decision and it's not my place to criticize. But to say you're "protesting evil capitalism" by not getting a job is stupid. You're entitled to you beliefs, but what kind of a system would you propose as an alternative to capitalism? Communism doesn't and cannot work, history has proven that. "Modern" socialism is by definition capitalistic, even the welfare state on most levels would be considered capitalism. The masses need to be moivated to work. Period. Sure, you and a few select others might be able to see past the dollar and live life for pleasure, 99% of people don't.
Ok, so you say the alternatives to capitalism don't work, but does capitalism actually "work"? Is it working right now? Many, many people in this capitalistic society aren't happy, and I think that's a big sign as to how things are "working". Maybe none of them work and we should try what we haven't yet... The masses don't need to be motivated to work, they just need to be happy. It's what we all need. So far, capitalism makes me unhappy, so I say fuck it.
Like...??? You shouldn't bitch about something unless you can think of a feasible alternative. And the government is not responsible for the "happiness" of its citizens. That is an individual's choice and responsibility. If you truly place your happiness in the hands of the government, then no wonder you're unhappy. I live in the same country as you, but I have learned to accept the things I cannot change and I now can honestly say that I am happy. BTW: A "temp" is when an employer hires you knowing you'll only be there temporarily. Most common example would be when you get hired for a summer job--you're employer knows you'll be leaving once school starts.
