I was making more of a general statement about North Carolina. I have lived in WS less than two years.
here's a question though; doesn't the bible say homosexuality, or specifically homosexual acts are wrong?
If one is desperate to promote Christianity no matter what, one can argue that the Bible is not homophobic. I've never found the arguments that convincing though. The fact that the religion has done pretty much dick all since the Bible's compilation to stem homophobia done in its name is harder to excuse.
Your turn to open a pandora's box. I've done my part. This forum already had a bible contradiction thread, but the OP was holding people to a narrow focus, which led to some frustration. I felt it was time to broaden the debate.
And then the third language aged 400+ years, with the text not being updated frequently along with it. At the County Council, we have policy documents that is edited about every 6 months. Mostly it's just minor alterations, clarifications to language and so on, to ensure that the text retains the sentiment that was originally intended rather than allowing it to be misinterpreted and loopholes to be exploited over and over again for decades. Just sayin'. I think trust is a relative state. If someone has everything to gain by lying to you, you've got to at least entertain and investigate the possibility that they already have. As far as the Bible goes, there's so little reason to believe that it isn't a con, but that's kind of how it works, isn't it? If more Christians read Going Postal, they might realise that they're being jerked around. Funnily enough, as a more-or-less-atheist, I'm in a pretty similar position. Dogbert shows us the light:
This is why the attempts of religiously affiliated groups to censor or ban books that differ from their own religion's philosophy sicken me to the core. Half the time the books complement their own philosophy very well. Harry Potter presents a similar anti-authoritarian, pro-conscience message to the Bible; you'd think they'd want to back each other up.
As the old saying goes, trust but verify. I am instantly suspicious of any group that tries to vilify everyone with a different opinion.
I'm even more suspicious when they have nothing to support their own opinion but "you can't PROVE I'm wrong". You can't PROVE you didn't molest children, but that doesn't mean I should be able to say you did with impunity.
Could there be anything more intellectually ludicrous than elevating the concept of FAITH to something one should be proud of? It is nothing more than a synonym for gullibility! When presented with a profound lack of facts and convincing evidence pertaining to ANY subject, an intelligent and honest person admits the truth, "I don't know"! Faith is a sign of mental weakness and fear of the unknown.
