Geese Flying North

on my way back from the store earlier today, i saw a formation of geese flying NORTH. at THIS time of year, in the northern hemisphere.

the reno/sparks area of northern nevada, where i live, is on their regular fly way. is even a place where they stop over.

but the wierdness doesn't end with their direction of flight at this time of year.

their formation was also backwards, that is to say, the point of the v was at the rear instead of leading in the direction of travel.

no, they weren't flying backwards and no i wasn't hallucinating.

i can only guess they were making some kind of local hop from one feeding area to another.

but its only a guess. pretty sure the climate or something in the air may have something to do with it.

but even that, from me is only a guess.

 

Two weeks ago I saw a formation going overhead but it was not just geese, there were other species flying information with them
