... Shakedown Street. I was a freshman in college and owned a copy of Skeletons but it was not a regular listen for me by any means. Instead I was listening to alot of Pink Floyd and George Thorogood at the time. How's that for a contrast? Now that I think of it I liked psyhedelic and I liked rockin blues so it makes sense.

Without thinking much about it, I accompanied a Dead-Head friend of mine on a bus to Syracuse for a show at the Carrier Dome. At that time I was going to any concert in town by anybody - no questions asked.

I still remember standing on my seat just like thousands of others on the floor of the Carrier Dome jamming to Shakedown Street. It was unreal. It was rockin. It was cool. It was out there. It worked for me like no other music had and ever has since. It was simply an awakening as to what music could be.

Other songs I recall being particularly enamored with in my early Dead years were Wang-Dang Doodle and Day Job ... songs they didn't play much as the years went on.

To this day I still get chills when I hear Loser and Black Peter. Just incredibly soulful music.

Great thread. I really enjoyed reading the posts. Thanks.
