Strange...... Ever notice that those individuals that think depression isn't that much of an issue are those who have never suffered from it? May they never experience it themselves, for I doubt if they would be able to deal with it....... "Live long and prosper"
Sending my love out to all of you who have suffered or are suffering from depression. May you be free from your depression and have a contented peace in your mind always. The most important thing--really the only thing--that got me to mostly overcome my lifelong depression was making my life more spiritual, and thereby focussing on others more than myself. I believe we all need something spiritual in our life, something bigger than this world and just this one human life that we have right now, both of which certainly have a lot of misery in it. There has to be something more--there IS something more--than just these ageing bodies that we have. Whether it's God, some other deity, some other big truth for yourself, seek it, find it, live it, and finally find some meaning to your life, and thereby be happy, and most of all, help others be happy.
Well said, my friend, and many blessings upon you, for 2023! I think it is VERY important for EVERYONE to have some sort of "spiritual" connection, regardless of your religion. Also, seek out the glittering nuggets of spiritual wisdom and peace by reading of faiths other than your own. King Mongkut of Siam (the proud monarch portrayed in the "King And I") once was quoted as saying: "Buddha teaches us that life is not for destinations, but for journeys." This, then, would be telling us to "journey" through life as best we can, even though we may, far too often, encounter both detours and obstacles. Even if your faith is but a small part of your life, allow it to guide you, especially through the hard times, regardless. A happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year to all, for 2023...... "Live long and prosper"
Cancer is often described as a "silent killer". Acute depression, also, is a "silent killer", and can utterly destroy an individual, both mentally and physically. Depression is MORE than just an "affliction"; it is also dangerous disorder that can, indeed, cause much serious harm to anyone afflicted with it. All the more reason why love, tolerance and understanding are so greatly needed, in these troubled times...... "Live long and prosper"
Heavy heart this season...Some old friends of mine...their child transitioned as a teen....suicide in early 30s over the holiday...I haven't asked, don't need to. We can all imagine. It's any one or several reasons off the shopping list...depression, rejection, bullying, fear, self doubt, I know I'm missing many, but. My heart aches for my friends.
So very, VERY sorry to hear of this, especially at the beginning of a new year, one supposedly full of hope and anticipation of something better. My deepest sympathies to your friends who lost their child. People will NEVER learn. If ignorance is bliss, then, indeed, we live in a VERY blissful world. I cannot put into words how sorry I feel for all involved. So damn senseless..........so tragic......and a sad waste of a human life........ "Live long and prosper"
