There's a message circulating around Myspace.com, talking about a gas boycott on September 3rd....has anyone else heard about this? And do you think it would actually work, or would we be better off just boycotting the two or three larger corporations?

I think boycotting a particular corporation would be easier, it is hard to boycott things you need, so you better get use to riding a bicycle.

That's about as funny as crackheads boycotting a dealer.
    And as realistic.

I don't think it's so difficult to fill up your tank before September 3rd so that you are set when that day rolls around... or ration it. WHY are people so utterly dependent upon gas.. I totally ration it as much as I can. If I don't ABSOLUTELY need to go somwhere, where I would have to drive ..or drive a lot, then I don't.

I really DON'T know if it could work or not, but I'm up for it. I don't buy gas on a daily basis ANYWAY. And if it's not too much trouble...walk!

I actually just got an email just a bit ago about boycotting the two largest oil companies Exxon and Mobil...by boycotting just them, they will be forced to lower prices to compete with those other oil companies. In turn, all prices will go down.

    I don't know if I believe it, but...heck...may as well....Worth a shot.

Won't happen. People say they get better milage from them two companies gas. Go ahead, go to a Hess or Sunoco, have fun filling up with mostly water and other bullshit additives that make you think you are saving. Quality, my dear watson.

that suggestion always makes me laugh...ok so everyone boycotts...first of all it would not happen...but if it did, if every single person in all of the united states decided to boycott gasoline on september 3rd....it would just mean that sept 2 and sept 4 they would have kick ass days...

ok...i just went back and read the thread and the link lodui put up said the same thing....
It's illogical. Refusing to buy gasoline on one particular day of the month won't affect the oil companies' overall sales or profits. Why not? Because everyone who skips buying gasoline on September 1 will be filling their tanks on the 2nd, or the 3rd, or the 4th of September. An effective boycott would require that a significant number of people consume less fuel on an ongoing basis, not just avoid purchasing it on one particular day of the year.

I took it to mean the boycott only starts on Sept. 3 and continues.

wait until these increases start affecting the economy....we are fucked any way you look at it...
only thing we can each do...and ok, think me dumb i dont care...
the only option we have in these dark times(and i mean the state of the entire world) is to offer our help to others...and to go within ourselves and find our center. if we allow all the chaos of the world to affect it it's gonna cause us more mass hysteria such as its causing in New Orleans..

    peace unto each of you...

no simply that date.....and as you can read on lodui's link...this same thing has been done year after year.....
people wont boycott for more than a day...how can we, we still have family's to provide for...which unfortunately for most of us requires gas...

i agree with mariecstacy, if ppl really want to save money on buying gas, they should look into alternatives instead.. for those with it available, there's public transportation, carpooling, walking, riding a bike, or driving a smaller vehicle, or in some cases, driving a car run on deisel is cheaper... some cases... i've heard some bad things about the gas mileage on hybrids, but hopefully companies start improving in that area... i'm thinking they'll become more and more popular now. anyway, we really should be doing all these things anyway, right? for the environment...
