I was going to the market behind the corner ,barefoot and there was a guy maybe 25 years old
and he mumbeld:normal people wear shoes.
I turned around and tapped him on the shoulder:hey normal people don't care.

    To Shinta:

I really like your answer. Unfortunatly the best ideas come in mind when it's already to late. That's what allways happens to me.

    To Fleassy:
Are you still barefoot? At 10°C it's not a problem at all, although you get a lot of strange looks from other people.

Cool answer Shinta! Are you a barefooter? How often do you walk barefoot outdoors?

I was at Clapham Junction railway station (an extremely large and busy rail interchange for those on the board unfamiliar with London) one evening when, as I walked along the platform, I passed a young(ish) couple sitting on a bench.

As I approached, the girl looked down at my feet and exclaimed in a disparaging tone 'No shoes !'.

To my surprise the guy, who I assume was her boyfriend, smiled broadly and said in a loud voice 'Fair play to you mate, no surrender !'

I returned his smile as I walked past but couldn't help but wonder 'What was that about ?'

Made a pleasant (and interesting) change though !

Hehe unfortunatly when my feet get cold and wet i end up really sad. It causes me a lot of pain, im not very good with cold ptemperatures and get cold very easy (bad circulation i guess) so in winter time i dont really barefoot though today i was tempted it was raining and my trousers were soapked and my shoes were soaked and my socks were soaked. .. and i thought... it would be so much easyer to just barefoot and be done with it. But i havent barefoot outside since summer so i figured my feet arent in a state to put up with the glass covered streets of brighton and in the rain its hard to tell where your treading. Roll on summer!!! :(

    Hi Fleassy,

If you don't stop walking barefoot when it gets colder may you get used to it. That's what I read in other forums. I also tried it in snow and it was fun for serveral minutes. Yesterday I made a walk with my little son in the baby buggy and I decided to take of my shoes because the street was muddy. My experience is that when the ground is wet your feet get cold, but if the ground is dry you can stand very low temperatures. When is put my shoes back on my feet got very warm. It was almost hurting. What you also can read is, that if you barefoot even if it's cold you're more resistant to colds. Some people say that since they barefoot they never catched a cold and before they had the problem every winter.

Glas on the street in rain is really a problem.

I found a film in a swiss german youth magazine about a girl who goes barefoot even in winter. She says that it less comfortable to walk with shoes than walking in cold weather (even in snow). She started because she saw other barefooters on the street and thought that is also will try it. The other people say nothing negative about her, only that the couldn't do it (have the tried it?).

Just click on the ruler to skip. The story about the girl is near the end.

    To DG2001:

It's the video which will be opened by the link (Week 30). You have to click on the ruler near the end to skip to the story. The girl's name is Meret.

    To Fleassy:

You are right. If it's cold and wet and you're not used to it, it's no fun and if it's no fun I wouldn't do it either. Let's hope we will get a nice barefoot spring, summer and autumn. In the last few days we had nice weather. I heard about the bad weather you have in UK. I hope yours will also get better.

Thanks Frank! Yes, Meret's interview is about minute 20. Wish I'd speak German! Could you please translate the most interesting parts of the interview for us???

Meret is such a pretty girl! I think it's great she's decided never ever wearing shoes again. She is a brave girl, and she even walks barefoot on snow!!!

    Getting back on topic:

    Stranger: Oh goodness, you're barefoot."

Me: "Oh yeah I forgot, thanks for reminding me"

Stranger: "Well what will you do if your feet get dirty?"

Me: "Wash them. What will you do if your shoes get dirty?"

Stranger: "I remove my shoes when entering my home."

Me: "You didn't answer my question."

Stranger: "Well, I wipe my feet on the welcome mat to clean the bottoms of my shoes"

Me: "I bet they don't get as clean asd my feet do when I shower"

Stranger: "You're probably right, I never thought of it that way. But why are you barefoot anyway?

Me: "So my shoes won't get dirty."

Stranger just laughed, and said it's been nice talking to you, and walked away.

    :D Some people huh?

Good answer in the context of that conversation. Sounds like the stranger was not being hostile or rude, just curious. I've had similar types of conversations.

But as a general rule, I just don't see why we have to explain or offer an excuse for being barefoot. Whenever someone asks me, "Why are you barefoot?" I always feel like saying, "Because I choose to be." That's all they need to know. But that answer might come across as a little curt or rude to someone who is only asking out of curiousity, so what I usually say is, "I don't wear shoes." Sometimes that's the end of the conversation, but sometimes it leads to further questions and gives me the opportunity to hopefully inform and educate someone.
