Yeah I did sound a bit arsey there. No offence meant. I just hear all about the 70s supposedly being a party decade, but from what I could tell, my parents werent doing much partying, they were struggling getting food on the table with all the shortages and strikes. Whatever parties were going on weren't really happening in large parts of the UK.

Mind you, I went to lots of childrens parties, being a child and all that. :2thumbsup:

the 70s were many things. to me, mostly, they were the decade when what people fought the establishment for in the 60s, became the establishment, or very nearly did, before the knee jerk reaction against it in the 80s, began dismantling even what had brought america out of the 30s. there has been progress on some fronts since, but regress on a great many more of them.

the 70s had interesting architecture, and was the last decade you could build most of it by low cost means. the 60s was the last decade the automobile wasn't god, but even then, the 50s were the last decade rail passenger service was still strong in the western hemisphere.

i was born in 1948, so 1970 to 1980 was 22-32 for me. my prime of adulthood as it were. and yes, in america, the 1970s was the best decade of my life.

the biggest down side, was the car becoming god, with the gradual loss of more and more public transportation in relation to the number of people there were and places where it stopped at.

and it wasn't until 77 the average person could buy a computer in a store that they could afford, without having to know how to build it themselves, but the kits came out in 74 and the chips first started to appear in 68 and 69.

i mean aside from those things, it really was the bast ten years to me, ever. even with my first experience of going broke in 75 and having to discover food lines.

but it was, you know people still thought in terms that didn't begin and end with money and having to outdo each other. peace really did have a chance. until the corporations decided they couldn't stand for it to. that is how and why the 80s came along and screwed it up.

there was still wierd twisty and fun architecture. imagination was a GOOD thing. and that was about visual and physical. it didn't mean about money crap.
