Came home to find that someone had stolen the tire off of my bike. My bike that was a gift from my best friend.

Fortunately my husbands bike was left alone, so we brought it up to the apartment. I left mine downstairs because the breaks were cut and I'm so angry about the whole thing that I don't want that negative energy in my space.

    People are dicks.

Yes some are. I had an old 5 horse 1954 Chris Craft outboard motor that someone decided they needed more than I did. If I ever find them........

You should feel honored they found your tire worthy of stealing and not your husbands

You could try to make yourself feel better thinking someone stole it to put together an (older) child's xmas gift; or that someone needed it to get to work to put food on the table.

    I'd be angry too, though.

Been there, at least you were home. I had my entire bike stolen and didn't know it until I got off the subway.....with no cell phone.

Many cities have co-op bike shops, very cool idea. You work a few hours a month and get parts(used) for almost nothing. I'm working at ours tonight.

I'm more at peace with it today. Im sure I'll be able to find someone to replace the tire and breaks. There has to be many business for that, considering my city is the bike theft capital of the country.

I had a car parked on the train station parking lot once. The trunk was unlocked and some irresponsible turd took advantage of that and stole the brake lights, but yeah, who expects such a thing so i didn't check.
It was winter so dark when i got there and drove to my parents. At one point someone behind me became annoyingly close so I hit the brakes a bit to warn them. Found out next morning that I had no brake lights and it could have gone very wrong. I hated people for some time too then :p

If my country would be included in those statistics you would feel much better :D
Lots of people deliberately choose old cheap bicycles in the city so its less of a burden when they get stolen. New/expensive bikes should have expensive locks too. Otherwise you're just stupid here.

My bike had a 200$ lock on it. Perhaps that's why they just decided to take the tire.

I guess so.. :p Unfortunately expensive bicycles should just be in a shed or hallway at night. Apparently they're irresistable if they stand in public in front of your building :(
Even one tire. Kind of lousy but yeah. I don't even want an expensive bicycle because of this.

It was in the bike room, actually. Most of the bikes were stripped.

TBH, I think the lock is more expensive than the bike.

Damn..! So how easily can strangers get in that bike room? Is it shared with other people in your building?

There is only one door separating the back alley from the bike room. You also don't need a key to enter the bike room from the lobby. So it could have been someone who was in the building visiting someone. Who the fuck knows.
