I'm not sure what your point is? Are you arguing that people who say they do believe sincere are not doing so? We weren't talking about anyone in particular so I am not sure why you would be arguing that, although I am sure there are people who are insincere about their beliefs or who are part of a religion without being a real believer. So what? There are still a lot of people who really do believe, and that was what she was saying. And yes, we can criticize the fact that they 'still' have religious belief (or something), but there is no reason to do so me thinks. Well, just as much reason to criticize people who are complacent in picking a new enemy when they are told there is one, or who are apathetic about the others as long as they have their pointless but their sustaining government job.

We already concluded that she worded it wrong. But I agree with her thought behind it (she can correct me if I'm taking it out of context!): there is no point in criticizing people negatively just for having religious beliefs/being sincerely religious.

 

this is not nice. but it would be no different with the head of christ or buddha.

the one problem i have with that, is that because it is islamist who are already being scape goated this time around.

extremists of every flavour are the same threat, and ideological ones are no exception.

Did anybody say we can judge someone exactly right just by appearance. Why are you arguing this? The idea that we can not determine right away who is sincere is a valid excuse for stereotyping and then stigmatizing an entire group of people? A good reason to paint with a too broad brush? What if it happens to be a group you are part of? I guess it is not a good excuse then anymore hmm. I guess people who do that have to be intolerant, ignorant, radical or fundamentalistic? They are serving themselves (wether it is with wordly stuff or some kind of honour they will gain in this life or if they're seriously doing it for their god or a specific afterlife). However, western society has evolved beyond medievalism such as we see in many Islamic countries. We have more freedom of expression for example. We don't regard women as mere chattals. You can criticize religion, and provided you avoid the Pope's left hook, you won't be censured for it. You certainly won't be sentenced to 1,000 lashes.

I think there's a possibility that a lot of Muslims have some form of PTSD.

Of course everyone is entitled to the modern technology. But, certain groups such as so called ISIS and boko haram vehemently oppose forms of Western technology but can conveniently forget about these qualms when using Twitter etc to reach out to new young assholes to join them. Which of course makes them total hypocrites. But thats what you do eh? To defeat the enemy you must know their ways and use their own methods against them. Its an age old strategy and I am not knocking it as such. They will not defeat the west just by throwing rocks at us. Besides, they need to keep a stockpile of rocks for stoning (their own) women to death.
They seem to think that the world should revert back to the middle ages, as if things were somehow better then. I would never judge Islam as a whole, I dont know enough about it but I will utterly condemn this barbaric fundamentalist version of it - and anyone who supports it.

Uh huh, and how do you feel about that then? Are you okay with boko haram running into schools and slaughtering children? I would argue that in case like that its more 'fun' if 'we' have them. The manufacture and trade in weapons is a very profitable business for the West, and big companies and government. Its a vile thing, but that too is not going to go away. Humans like fighting it seems. And where there is demand there will always be an entrepreneur to help facilitate it.
