And in order to even try to reverse the flow you would have to disconnect the incoming side to the meter which would require the gas company coming out to shut their valve off. I don't like messing with gas either.
I have a bad habit of leaving the oven/stove burners/iron on. Drives my partner crazy, and I hate it too! So wasteful, but I'm really scatterbrained/absent minded.
That is what I thought Oldham gas explosion The person who lived there deliberately left the gas on overnight...it injured him and killed a baby who lived next door : /
I can't remember if the valve is on the incoming side or the customers side...not that I need to know - but I will probably have to check when l get home : /
The meter is in my kitchen. There is a valve before the meter with a couple of holes that would line up when the valve is turned off, I assume this is for the gas company to put a lock on it in order to turn off the service. I'm not really gonna fuck with that shit tho, it doesn't really seem worth it.
analog gas meters are highly sensitive to shock... just tap on them with rubber mallet, will throw off reading and give them the idea the use was regular and the meter is fucked.. replaced meter, cant do that again for a while..
The old electric meters can be turned over and they will run backwards, but if you go to far they get supicious and will watch them. The new meters they have installed can be read and shut off over the air waves, I am not sure how they work but I know they can tell imediately when they have been tampered with. Don't try to turn them over. Gas meters and water meters here have an rfid chip in them so they can just point their readers at them and never have to get out of the car. You don't want to get caught doing this because they will bill you the maximum amount then take you to court and fine you out the ass.
I leave the oven on all the time. Its an older oven with no light to indicate its on, so I'm constantly forgetting to turn it off. Its an electric oven so I just have to worry about running the electric bill up.
I would be more worried about the chance of a fire rather than wasting power or gas. I have left it on but have been home and noticed a few hours after using it. Thankfully I have never gone out and left it on.
I heard somwhere that certain audio frequencies will make the gas meter spin backwards because of some kind of resonance effect or something but I'm gonna have to do research on that. This is my meter, plain old regular kind that never gets read
It wasn't about if it 'worked' it was about blowing myself to kingdom-come... I'm sure they are a little more robust than I'm giving them credit for... But,...
I highly doubt any explosion with occur hitting it with rubber mallet. we learned this from playing handball. many years ago the gas company had to replace this persons meter almost monthly, til they learned it was our rubber ball hitting the meter throwing it out of balance.. eqv to mallet shock. btw the meter will not bounce backwards, it will move forward possibly many hundred cubic feet, there is no way the costumer could consume that amount and they will replace the meter.. even so: you can pay that wasted gas off over time..
Yeah, I know. It was just morbidly amusing to me, that's all... :blush5: I wasn't taking this 100% seriously. Sorry.
i've heard of people arranging to have their meter stolen...since there's no meter to read during that billing cycle they could use all the gas they want and the gas company would replace it with a new meter and bill them based on an estimated reading. I would think this could only be done once tho...and probably not at all in my case. Who the fuck is gonna climb up into my window to take my fuckin gas meter?! And for that matter the readings are estimated..I'll have to look at the bill and see how it looks compared to the actual reading. I was thinking about calling them to make them come read it but only if it would be in my favor.
HOLY SHIT...i just looked at the meter and if you put it against the previous estimated reading it shows that over $1440 worth of gas was used since the last estimate reading before any other tax and delivery charges which I didn't bother to figure out cuz I already know that they are most of the bill anyway. I think I will just have them continue estimating...they're gonna fuck you over regardless and have it rigged to where if you try to fight it you get absolutely raped. Sp basically they're billing me based on the previous tenants gas usage, who was probably based on the previous tenants gas usage, and if anyone called for a reading that would somehow go in there and throw things off in they're favor. I would hate to know how much restaurants pay for gas! Edit: simple math mistake...$14.40 of gas, I'm gonna have to start keepin an eye on this shit myself instead of just leaving it up to ConEd.
