Damnit! I just went in the kitchen and noticed that the oven was left on this morning and has been on all day. That really pisses me off cuz i've been trying to really save energy as much as I can and then something like this happens. I can't even imagine how much gas it used for absolutely nothing. I guess it would contribute to heating my apartment but the steam heat is free so it's a huge waste! Godfuckingdammit!

Anyone know a way to get a gas meter to spin backwards?

    You pay for gas??

I have steam heating in my bathroom (pipe in the corner). And then the rest of the house has radiators on the wall. My building is like 200 years old.

Actually, I bake things to heat the house sometimes since I can't control the radiators.

ps. I don't think you can since a lot of NY's are digitized. ConEd comes out and zaps it with an infared reader.

I pay for gas and electricity. The only thing that uses the gas is the stove. Having it on all day is probably like a months worth of cooking all at once...that is if they actually read the meter which they don't...well I guess I'll get to find out anyways.

It sucks when you make a point to try and conserve something and something like this happens and it takes everything you just did away. Theres no way to tell if this oven is turned on or not, I just happened to get close to it and noticed it was hot.

Yeah that sucks but no use in regretting it. Better to just learn from it, make a habit of checking it regularly.

You should use anti-gas. If you keep the anti-gas on for a while, your gas meter will spin backwards.

Well, I got all the way down to the motorbike this morning then couldn't find my clutchpurse with the key anywhere in the new backpack I'd just packed for the commute. A friend from work was just coming out the security door so I asked her to reopen it for me, dashed up 4 flights stairs, searched around, but then remembered I'd packed the backpack last night and put the purse in a secret inside pocket. Being dyslexic is no fun..takes extra planning to make sure all the ducks are in a row, and anything new can mess things up. Taking a pinch of basil and/or St. John's Wort helps.

Haha...antigas. I was actually wondering about whether it would spin backwards if you were to hook it up backwards so the gas goes thru the other way...similar to how an electric meter will spin in reverse if you install it upside down? Not that I would actually do this, it could be dangerous.

Well look at it this way, at least there aren't any bacteria, or anything else like that hiding in there anymore.

Considering the alternative, it could be A LOT worse.

I think they work like a valve in your heart...only one direction.
If they work in the opposite direction you are in big trouble.

Plus, there is usually a seal on the meter too. They will know if it's been tampered with.

^I assume that is a picture of what the block would look like if something goes wrong?

I would imagine so. I don't mess with the gas...

Yes. Perhaps unlikely, but you never know.
I suppose the good thing is you would be dead before you were even aware anything had gone wrong.

    experiment with rare earth magnets

sometimes a properly placed magnet will stop or slow down the city water meter...maybe it will work on some gas meters too
