OK, should've put my first post here, but didn't know about it. Oh well. I'm here because I am frustrated. I need an outlet where I can be me and not have to worry about judgmental assholes. In truth, I'm a liberal atheist who lives in the deep south with a bunch of shit head, uneducated, hyper-religious, racists fucks who always talk about hanging gays and devil worshipers and shit. I need an outlet to be me. This seems like the right place. So here I am. I have a business so I have to be polite - at least in person, and all the while I'm thinking behind my back, why the fuck do I put up with these dumb fucks? OK, sorry for the rant, but just needed to get that off my chest.
I was down in Tennessee, wound up talking to this redneck guy on a fishing dock about town. I liked it down there for the country, not the people, but he was actually pretty cool. Told me a story about how one of the local pastors did the snake thing, and he had missed one of the fangs when he had de-fanged the snake, so the friggin thing hauled of and bit him across the cheek right in the midle of mass. He's rushed to the ER with a swollen face and they manage to save his life, the local law enforcement bans snakes from churches. "bans". Next week the pastor's 20-something year old son is in the ER because he tried replicating daddy's stunt with a... erm... properly-but-poorly de-fanged snake. People! There are some cool guys down there, but few and far between. Good luck keeping your sanity, and welcome to Hipforums! (BTW we have our fair share of crazies too, fair warning - and watch out, they do bite)
maybe you would like going to college or something where you would be around more educated people .. or devil worshipping professors or what have you i think it probably bothers you as much as it does because you get emotionally involved, because maybe these people are your family but you just can't for anything understand them. you want them to at least understand why you have the views you do and are probably the type of person who enjoys intellectual discussions but discussions with them make no progress. i have some ignorant people in my family (and really don't have much of a relationship with most of my family either). i'm down to have an intellectual discussion with someone (even a religious person), and i don't necessarily want to convert that person to my views but i would at least like to make progress and see that the other person is thinking whether they end up agreeing with me or not. the goal is not necessarily that everyone agree with me as long as they are thinking both people can learn something about where the other is coming from. if someone calld me a devil worshipper tho, i would be offended and put off and know that the person isn't reasoing with me, and instead just wants to fight anything i say with some kind of religious regurgitation.
