Please don't give the christians Utah. It's too close to Oregon and we want to take over Oregon. South Carolina is fine with me. They get one coast and we get the beautiful coast. Can't wait to live in a wonderful hippie utopia.

I agree, Utah is far too nice for the fundies. All those redrock canyons and such would be wasted on them. If the fundies took over the canyonlands, Ed Abbey would be spinning in his grave! :)

Bad enough that the Mormons control everything out there as it is. Maybe we should ship THEM to SC, as well. :)

Shit, they already have SC. I live there. It sucks!! They control everything we do. Only recently can stores open before 1:30. Why? Because people should be at church! Fucking blue laws. And god forbid you want to drink on a Sunday!! You have to do it in your house, with the curtains drawn so no one sees you!! The First Baptist Church is the driving force behind any political decision made in my town. A friend of mine used to work in a buffet restaurant. On Sundays, all the church goers would go out to eat for lunch after church. They would leave their pamphlets for their churches on the tables. One time, this man told her, as she was cleaning his table, that the bible said you shouldn't work on Sunday. She said, well if people like you didn't want to go out to eat on Sundays, I wouldn't have to work!! I wish I could have seen the look on his face!!

I guess I better be looking for a new state to live in.

Ellis, the Mormons are already here. They travel my town in pairs, going door to door trying to convert us. Love it.:(

there was a church i went to briefly, and they're pretty hard core on not working on the sabbath. well, there were a few missing from the bible study that day, since they were busy working the in hospital, being nurses and respitory therapists. severeal old codgers got all pissy about them working on the sabbath, until my husband piped in with "didn't jesus already go over the concept that it's okay to heal people on the sabbath?"

if they wanna get all high and mighty about people working on the sabbath, they aughtta read a couple lines later about not causing anyone esle to work either.

freaking judgemental pigs. getting all up in arms about stupid little rules and completely forgetting the whole "love and forgiveness" that jesus was trying to teach.

That is just what would happen. And we should let it. I like the Island idea. I don't want them in the Continental US.

People who are this rigid give all people who follow Christ a bad name. I am a Christian, but not an evangalist. What I beleive is MY business (and has no business in politics) and what other people beleive or don't beleive is NONE of my business. In the US, we follow the Constitution, not Deuterotomy or Leviticus (which even uber fundies can't follow to the letter!) We are NOT based on "an eye for an eye" we are a nation in which religion and state are separated.

Let these nuts have their own country. Give them enough rope and they will hang themselves. Look what Jim Jones did.

I for one would love to see what would happen to the US if the religious right fucked off and formed their own country. Definitely worth the low, low price of South Carolina. The rest of the world continually looks at America with disdain for it's extremely backward social policies (inspired by these kooks), it's about time to join the 21st century...

Hey, and what about Christians like me? I'm a Metaphysical Christian and I believe in equal rights under the law for same-sex couples, I'm pro-choice and I'm just an all-around political liberal. I'm pretty sure that my kind aren't invited!! (Not that I'd want to go);) Those kind of "Christians" are giving us all a bad name.

DolphinRider....it is people like yourself, that give Christians a good name. It's nice to know there are Chrisitians out there that believe in the things you do, like unconditional love for all, tolerance, acceptance, non-judgemental.

IMO the religious right stole Jesus and turned the Christian religion into something Jesus would find unrecognizable if he was on earth today.

me too. i don't think the government has any say in the activities of it's citizens that cause no harm. i'm a christian because jesus taught us to love, tolerate, accept and forgive endlessly, and to be peaceful people. there's a reason he was called the Prince of Peace, despite the bizarre actions of some of his less than perfect followers. i gotta run with that.

See I disagree with the majority of you on this, christianity (although i would not consider myself a christian) is being slaughtered in America these days. Everyone of any religion is always treated with such respect by everyone because it wouldn't be politically correct to tell them what to do. But everytime christians say something they get deemed as nuts or whackos, the truth is christians should have the right to pray in public schools, and if somebody wants to display the ten commandemtns in public, they should have the right to do so, and if they don't want gays to be married because they feel like it is against the word of god, then they should have the right to form their own country so then they can let all of you who are for it have it finally, in the Middle East people have the right to worship islam anywhere they please, and in Israel they have the right to worship judaism, etc. America is a christian country, you can deny all you want, the majority of this country believes in Jesus Christ and the Bible, and although I do believe in separation of church and state because it is fundamental for a tyranny free government, i think that christianity really is being attacked these days. Nobody can deny that the founding fathers were devote christians and would not have had the political views they had if it were not for christianity and the bible. In the declaration of independence it says that our rights are derived from god. I can understand why you would not want the ten commandments in front of a court, but why do you have to call christians biggots and whackos just because they don't want gay marriage, or think kids should have the right to read the bible in school or pray...

    Peace and Love,
    Dan

    Uhhh, THEY DO.

    Again, THEY DO.

Bullshit. If the USA was a "Christian Country", then why are there exactly ZERO references to Jesus in the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, Constitution, etc.?

Actually, most of them were DEISTS, not "devout christians":

    http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/farrell_till/myth.html

I don't call them Bigots and Whackos because of what they believe. I do so because they want to give those beliefs the force of LAW, thereby cramming their beliefs down everyone else's throats...

Christians do have the right to pray and read the bible in public schools. Kids can pray whenever they want, and take their bible all over the place. They just cant make classrooms full of kids pray before lunch, or listen to prayers over loudspeakers and the similar. Kids can still opt to do that personally if they desire, but school officials cannot make groups of kids participate in or take part in prayer or any other religious activity. I get tired of hearing the "kids can't pray in school anymore" claim because that is total over-exaggerated BS.

Christianity is not under attack, christianity right now is attacking anything that doesn't fall in line with its own belief system. Any seemed attacks on christianity is just the non-christian america trying to retain it's own rights and liberties. Defending our civil liberties, our freedom of religion, and seperation of church and state is not an attack on christianity - it is a preservation of true freedom.
