Through one of the yahoo groups im in I got the impression that in euroup it was legal to camp on abandoned property....I guess that was wrong...
I didn't grow up in Europe but my parents and most of my older relatives did. So this is some of my knowledge so far of what has happened recently. In France where my uncle, aunt and my cousin live, their village had a large plot of land owned by the goverment. The gypsies would camp at that location but since 2004, the government turned it into a corn field. In Portugal, they have a law for some years now where a person can file papers over some land they have claimed to have worked for ten or more years. It is only published by the newspapers in Portugal, it makes it difficult for those who live outside of the country because they will not have any knowledge of what is taking place. The owners of the properties only have a short period of months to claim the lands or homes, leaving the person who had filed the papers to be charged in court or fined 10k euros for false information and for fraud. Many have had their lands stolen because of this law. This law was to help the govenment clear up some lands or properties that were so called abandoned (which is pretty lazy that the government doesn't put into much effort finding these information on their own.) It only is a way to steal in most cases. My aunt who lives in Portugal tried to steal lands and my grandparents house for herself and her children. My grandparents split the lands and the home for my other uncles and aunts including my mother but my evil aunt took advantage of the law to take away everything. My parents and my uncle from France did not have any knowledge of want happened until a neighbor warned us of what was going on. At that point it was too late to call out to the government. Now the lands were taken away from my aunt's name and were placed into auction in spring of 2007, my parents bought everything because she threatened that if her brothers and sisters did not go her way that she would throw them out from their home village (a selfish thing to say.) She also lost the case over my grandparents house. Now the law could be used by gypsies or who ever takes a risk. I share with all the video of my grandparent's former home https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v39ywg06jcE"]YouTube - Em casa dos meus avós Valdegas, Portugal
