I guess until we can figure out how to control the sun and wind regardless of the weather situation we'll still need fossil fuels for backup. "Renewable energy sources tend to under-deliver during certain periods — such as for instance in the month of September, when there's less wind power generated in Europe and China, according to Boyle of S&P Global Platts." https://www.cnbc.com/2021/11/04/gap-between-renewable-energy-and-power-demand-oil-gas-coal.html
CO₂ is plant food. I am sorry I am a seroius environmentalist I hate the way climate change takes away attention from the 10,000 thousand other ways humans are destroying this planet. So do we need to destroy the planet MORE looking for lithium and all the other rare earths ? We all use cell phones. But do we know where the minerals that make them work come from? 95% of the global supply for coltan, a rare mineral essential for modern smartphones, comes from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The Bloodiest Trade: Conflict Minerals in the DRC
Windmills and solar panels in north America will solve none of this. We will just have a destroyed planet that's the "right" temperature. Maybe.
Our wasteful use of fossil energy is disgusting. Does the mall really need to be 72 degrees in summer when its 95 degrees outside sucking up serious kilowatts roasting coal oil gas ? Its disgusting waste of resources. So many examples I could post.
Good thinking there. Safeway was the worst. I complained once and the manager said (as my teeth were chattering from the cold and it was 90 something outside) don't worry, we are going to get solar power sometime in the future... What a wanker. Don't worry... be happy, right? HA! This world is getting really dirty.
People just don't even think. I am fine at 80 degrees. The first modern air conditioner was invented in 1902 by Willis Haviland Carrier, a skilled engineer who began experimenting with the laws of humidity control to solve an application problem at a printing plant in Brooklyn, NY. All of human history till lately we were just fine. Its just stupid beyond all comprehension.
Solar heating THAT is cool. How many Solar panels to make the electric to heat the stove ? "One of the largest electric burners can use 2500 to 3000 watts, which makes boiling water useful for cooking or heating meat or anything of a large size. Medium burners use between 2000 and 2500 watts in a high setting. And the smallest burners use between 1500 and 2000 watts." Solar Oven Designs: Dish vs Vacuum Tube - GoSun
That's a wonderful solar cooker! I have been interested for years in rigging up something to cook with in the sun. There is so much sun and it is free for the taking And @TheGreatShoeScam I enjoy reading your posts!
Being a printer myself, I understand the need for humidity control in the printing environment. Sheet fed presses get cranky when the paper sticks together and roll fed presses experience other issues due to paper stretching while going through the press. And then there is the issue of printing envelopes with the glue strip, needs to stay dry! Or they all glue themselves together in the box after printing I handle 80 degrees quite well, even at high humidity. But when it gets to the mid-nineties and the humidity is 98% air conditioning becomes essential for me. And it does get to over 100 F here in the summer at times. Wish I had solar panels on the roof, but this is a rental.
Last time I landed in Dallas I was horrified to see almost a total lack of solar panels on the roofs. In most of Texas it’s a nobrainer as well as other adjacent states. Here in Olympia, WA there’s a scattering of solar installations and we are really short on sunny days for much of the year. My neighbor said in the summer his small array puts out about 8,000 watts…far more than his house uses since air conditioning use is minimal. We just got a hybrid SUV and it’s an eye opener…about 40 mpg with no draw on the grid. Just harvesting wasted energy thru regenerative breaking. Higher mpg in town! There is so much more we can all do and ignoring the use more voices of the fossil fuel companies and Fox News is a place to start.
