The forums were down 3 hrs today due to a DDoS attack. We are investigating the source. Our hosting company said they hadn't seen such an intensive attack in a long time.
Thanks for keeping us in the picture. I was going to let you know, thinking that the problem may have been confined to the UK. Have a good time playing with your DOS, while at least one other member will be able to put his DILDOS away now.
I had to google what that was and I still don't get it. I appreciate the honesty though, Skip. You could have spun us a line of bullshit. I wouldn't know any better
Put simply the DOS is the "Direct Operating System" Since it supports the operating system of the server, an attack there causes major havoc.
A ddos attack basically floods the server with so many requests it can't handle any of them. Its like trying to get a drink from a firehose.
Was wondering why the site wasn't coming up. Figured the library connection may have been on the fritz. Glad to hear it got sorted out
As you have seen it can crash the site. Whether it does or not depends on the preventative measures in place before the attack is mounted. Motivation is anyone's guess.
