    it was portraying the various decades through the eyes of Forest Gump. He was a simple man from a small southern town so the hippie era isn't going to look the same to Forest Gump as it does to you.

    If you want to see a really bad movie about hippies, watch "The Hippies", I think it aired on the History channel (which makes things up all the time).

    In that movie, they focus on Charles Manson as the prototypical hippie. Yeah, right... They bring up Manson three different times in that one, and put hippies in a bad light.

    I still haven't forgiven Peter Coyote for doing a voice over that surely made him cringe in that movie.

    That movie had an agenda. There are others too that are just as bad.

    IMO, Forrest Gump was an awful movie in so many ways, that had nothing to do with history.

    I felt the movie was a dumbed down version of what really happened. Just a gloss over without any real statement about what went down.

    But since I only sat thru it once, a long time ago, my memory has faded.

    On the other extreme is the current series with David Duchovny, Aquarius.

    That series belabors the Charles Manson story, as it's about a cop looking for his daughter, who just happens to be hanging out with Charlie, unsurprisingly.

    I can't even watch it, because it's ALL ABOUT Manson and how he managed to control so many naive "hippies".

    What is this never ending fascination with Manson? I'm thinking the Aquarius show will just inspire more ppl to be like him.

    Perhaps the point is to show kids who NOT to follow?

    Exactly.

    Skip...it wasn't supposed to be a historical movie. Forrest was not a real person who gave Elvis his dance, made up "shit happens" or had a best friend that started the Apple Company. It was a movie, with a script and meant to be for entertainment.
