While this 1967 album is highly critically acclaimed and stands as a psychedelic pop masterpiece, it escaped the mainstream attention of albums by other LA-based bands like The Doors and Buffalo Springfield at the time. This could be because the band refused to tour outside of their LA base. The band was in the midst of falling apart while the album was being recorded, since half the band were strung out on heroin and had to rely on session musicians to complete the recordings. You would think the album would have come out terribly, but it's one of the most immaculately produced albums of the 60s, featuring at times lush strings and horns coupled with the idiosyncratic and often bizarre lyrics of the enigmatic Arthur Lee -- perhaps the first black man to front a psychedelic band. It sounds like what you might expect from 60's psychedelic pop music, but with a warped quality that captured the dark side of the 60s hippy scene in America. This is one of the best songs against war ever written. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TniztJYqsJ8"]Love - Live And Let Live - YouTube
Actually, I think this is the best song on the album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdELzBV9pyo"]Love - You Set The Scene - YouTube
