I don't know if I think it's really tragic. I mean...there are some very admirable parts to this and some kind of sad parts. It's so unusual that it's hard to put into perspective.
The mom dying of starvation so her kids would live, then all of the kids except one dying from kidney failure hits me right in the feels.
That does suck but they just had lives that 99.9% of us can't even relate to. I can see where they obviously missed out but also gained from being so isolated. In the original account that I read, it said that they died from immune system failures after being contacted by the outside world. This article says different. I don't know what happened but the Smithsonian seems kind of credible to me.
