What do you barefoot folks do if anything to take care of your feet? The bottoms of mine are starting to look dry and scaly from daily 35 min. walks down up and down a sidewalk with my daughter (she loves it). Is there something I should be putting on them to keep from looking so torn up? What about cracks on the soles?

Also I use baking soda and peroxide every now and then on my toenails and scrub them with a toothbrush to keep them nice and clear.

What other kinds of things do you do to take care of your feet?

I use a foot file to keep down the callouses, but I must be careful not to over do it. My heels do seem to suffer from dryness so I use a good moisturizer. That about covers it.

That's probably something I need to start doing then. Maybe some shea butter or something to keep them from drying out and cracking.

as said, soak them and use a file, a pumice stone (or a callus blade to remove extra thicknesses) from points where cracks can show. never let them grow wide.

Thanks man. I already have a callus blade but I don't use it as much as I should.

There is one: apply moisturizer made with cocoa butter before you go to sleep (assume that you washed your foot thoroughly before that), and put one socks, then go to sleep with the socks on. The reason to put socks on is to keep the moisturizer from contaminating your sheet, and your sheet may rub all the moisturizer off.

I know it's not for everybody but I'm a big fan of pedicures. More guys get 'em than you'd think.

    I enjoy a pedicure, too.

However, in between pedicures, I use a rough skin remover twice weekly, to exfoliate away in-grained dirt that my feet accumulate, in addition to using a pumice stone, every day whilst showering, in order to keep the skin on my feet feeling smooth.

I follow this up by alternating between shea butter and coconut oil based moisturisers twice daily.

In addition, I trim, file and buff my toe nails once a week, keeping my toe nails short.

    you spelled my name wrong

    and yes..they are regular tools

...they work well and dont take away the good skin ..just the dead stuff

ive even used a handheld belt sander on my feet but i dont recommend that unless youre very familiar with the tool

Yep! I use a similar file for the hard skin. Sandpaper over a block of wood works well too!

I've used one of these to remove very tough and dead skin but as BBAD says you really need to know how to use one.

Guess you could call this my foot care survival kit! And it keeps growing with new things here and there. I have to do daily maintenance, otherwise everything gets out of hand.

I've never understood the heel crack complaints.

I've had thick skin that required some file work around the edge of my heel just for presentability, and I have a barefoot friend who gets the same ridge, where the callus goes farther than where your foot actually usually contacts the ground so it doesn't wear fast enough. Other than that, clip your toenails (I suggest angle/cutting pliers, much easier to handle and aim, no struggling, and you can make any curve you want to avoid ingrowth problems), and shower as anyone else would....
