Us Brits was eating spotted dick way before cookie doe was thought of and the British navy lived on it, as they would have a duff as they called every day..

 

Then you had Cornish miners there at some time in the past, just the same as down in Brasel, as where they went the pasties went with them.

 

What about Cornish clotted cream and they are different, Devon is smooth and Cornish has lumps in it, for me Cornish is best, why I lived there before coming to Greece mehansome.

I've never had. What I did do was promptly order scones and cream (thinking that scones were coming with ice cream... ) at the airport cafe after having a superfood something or other... Nope. Not ice cream as good as that sounds. I think they came with butter. LOL!

I don't know what's in spotted dick or what it tastes like, and further can't imagine how it's been overlooked in all our culinary ambition and artisan presentations... I'm honestly surprised it's not on somebody's menu - and I've seen a lot of menus!

 

Coward !!! - should have used the 'proper' version like I do - vegetarian version is a bit bland !!!

I'm careful as to what fats I consume so I can keep lean ,hence I'm vegetarian . I found very little difference taste wise especially if you have a wee dram with it.

Judith darlin' - you can make your own - you'll need some belly pork. Score it with a sharp knife, rub salt into the score and roast in the oven till cooked. Remove the skin from the joint pour a little vinegar over the skin and place under a grill for a few minutes to crisp up - voila - Pork scratchings !!!
