lol has anyone actually shopped regularly lately?

sure rice is skyrocketing,however beans,fresh veggies,everything is going up,up,UP..

hell milk went from 3.59 to 3.99 a gallon since last week here.

its obvious folks on here have much more disposable cash than anyone in my community..
quite frankly with gas having gone up 45 cents a gallon in the last month the price of food having gone up 15 to 40% in the last month and thats not counting rice or flour,
people in my community are alternating from fear to sorrow to a feeling of helplessness.

we went to town this evenin to do our normal shit, and i heard no less than 5 conversations to that effect..
the reality is,at least in my community the time for stocking up has passed.
now folks are just wondering how they will survive..

oh the girl at our supermarket said the price of pretty much everything in the store was going up by another 30 cents next week...

i just believe that if what ive gleaned over the last 6 months of spending literally hours upon hours digging for information holds true,, we are FUCKED..
no the last thing i want to see is a collapse of this nation..

my whole motivation is to attempt to get as many people prepared as possible as possible before it comes to pass..

ACCRA, Ghana (AP) - The U.N. chief warned Sunday that the world must urgently increase food production to ease skyrocketing prices and pledged to set up a task force on a crisis threatening to destabilize developing nations. The cost of food has increased by around 40 percent since mid-2007 worldwide, and the strain has caused riots and protests in countries like Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Haiti and Egypt.

"We must make no mistake, the problem is big. If we offer the right aid, the solutions will come," Ban said at the opening of a a five-day U.N. conference on trade and development in Ghana's capital, Accra.

"One thing is certain, the world has consumed more than it has produced" over the last three years, he said.

Ban blamed a host of causes for the soaring cost of food, including rising oil prices, the fall of the U.S. dollar and natural disasters.

He said he would put together a special task force to help deal with the problem and called on the international community to help. He said the U.N. World Food Program plans to raise $750 million per year to help feed 73 million people in 80 countries.

"We need a real world and not the world of economic theories," Ban said. "I will work on this right now with a sense of urgency."

Ban said the Millennium Development Goals—adopted at a U.N. summit in 2000 to cut extreme poverty in half by 2015—were not being met.

"We risk going back to square one, and we need to redouble efforts or betray the promises that we made to our people," Ban said.

In Haiti, food riots this month cost Prime Minister Jacques Edouard Alexis his job and setback international efforts to stabilize the country. Hundreds of Haitians have stood in long times to receive U.N. and regional food aid rushed to the country.

 

My guy was a sales genius. Used to by it by the pound and sell half of it for what he paid in full.

My buddy and I took the opposite route. We'd raise money for small amounts and collect until we had enough for the whole piece, and naturally when all parts of the piece were handed out we had a nice big piece left for ourselves and didn't have to touch a dollar.

 

As soon as people except cannibalism as socially acceptable, no one will go hungry.

i wouldn't be surprised if the world food markets were being manipulated to create panic so that the corporations can get widespread acceptance of frankenfoods, terminator gene seeds, etc. it's probably a grab for power and obscene profits that's behind all this.

 

Genetically modified food comes at a price. A single problem such as a species of fungi/insect could wipe out the entire crop.

The markets are being manipulated as usual.


The rich just keep getting richer while the little guy, the average joe get shafted.

The government as usual just goes through the motions, but don't count on Bush and the Neo-Cons to get us out of this mess as they are part of the problem, and the underlying issues are way too big for them to deal with.

saw a news special on Australia's rice exports getting drastically low because farmers are now turning their rice fields and growing grapes instead because of the minimal consumption of water thats needed..

 

i had no idea americans relied so heavily on rice in their diets. i don't even eat rice.
