What about burning a flag on your computer screen? Cyber-burning? Emailing the animation to someone? :)

What about that fake fire they use in Hollywood? :)

Freedom is a duty, not a right.

It is our duty as citizens not to burn flags, and hence be free in the truest sense of the word: free from destructive instincts that cause you to lose love and respect for oneself and one's nation.

If you don't like your government, there are more intellectual ways to criticize it. Flag burning accomplishes nothing.

    Just my opinion

    Says who?

First of all, I don't owe my nation any respect.

Second of all, if flag-burning will make you lose respect for yourself, then don't burn flags. But don't start telling others what they should and shouldn't do.

Be that as it may, there are obviously people who think it DOES accomplish something, or else they wouldn't do it.

If you start making everything illegal that "accomplishes nothing" or might "make you lose respect for yourself," you'll very quickly find yourself in a Taliban-like environment.

Maybe, but I do believe that the majority of people respect their nation even if they dissent with its government's policies. And I think respect for one's nation is a positive force in a person's life.

Just because you think that an accomplishes something, does not mean, it really does. As a matter of fact, flag-burning doesn't even cause the faintest of a stir, because it has becomre quite a trite image and people haver become desensitized enough not to care.

When did I ever say that flag burning should be made illegal? I was just expressing my opinion that flag burning is futile "revolutionary" drivel.

    Fair enough, my mistake.

Personally I'm inclined to agree with you that it doesn't accomplish much.

The fact that many Americans detest flag burning so much is the main reason why people around the world burn the flag. They know it drives many Americans nuts. It's like former irritable baseball players Albert Bell and Jose Canseco. When people know you get annoyed easily, you become a target.

    Well said!

One day people like you and me - freedom loving free thinkers - will be hunted down like dogs, forced out of society, and, if we dare to resist being microchipped (yeah, like dogs) then locked up or denied access to food, medical treatment, housing etc.

I can see it coming to this sooner than most people think. If flag-burning draws some attention to the incineration of our human rights and freedoms (for people all over the world)...then PLEASE burn it.
