my first dead cd was skeleton's from the closet, too. however, it's definitely not my favorite. i don't see how you can call yourself a Grateful Dead fan and like a best of album with all studio recordings. in fact, i deleted it from my computer.

American Beauty was the first album that I ever listened too. I believe its also the first album I ever bought too, if not it was their first album Grateful Dead.

My first dead album was Blues for Allah. It's still my favorite studio album. I aquired it when my friend bought it and decided he didn't like it so he passed it on to me. I was mostly into heavy metal at the time, but when I listened to Blues for Allah I was floored. I never knew music could sound like that. Within a year I had stopped listing to metal all together. The dead had become my musical focus. (and it still is.)

I'm the type of guy that likes to start at the beginning and hear growth so the first one I got was the self titled debut. It's funny I read an interview with Robert Hunter and he said his favorite Dead album was In the Dark because event though it was a studio album it was recorded with only vocal overdubs. IE they set up like they do on stage and recorded all at once and only recorded vocals later.
    Peace Out,
    Rev J

the first i heard was 'american beauty'... the first i bought was aoxomoxoa' shortly thereafter... i figured it had a neat name, and since i didn't really know much of the dead at the time, that was good enough for me :p

My first was Grateful Dead I found on the floor after me and my brother had traded rooms in the house we grew up in. It was a white cassette. I still have it.

My first Dead album was a record, which was their 1967 self-titled album.

It's a masterpiece. All the songs go great together. Excellent cover art too.[IMG]

My dad already had Grateful Dead, Aoxomoxoa, Workingman's Dead, American Beauty, and Blues for Allah.

The first one I listened to was Aoxomoxoa because I was young and was like "HOLY SHIT THAT IS AN AWESOME ALBUM COVER!!!!" And it still is. :D
