That just says your brain goes into overdrive when your tripping.

Doesnt prove anything about a new level of consciousness.

Love how these techno nut huggers phrase this stuff

Well it links higher experiencial consciousness with more diverse physical brain activity.

Is it certain such increased activity in the brain as measured in the study OP talks about equals a higher (instead of just an altered) state of consciousness? How so?
If not, then the title of the article is false and misleading

I agree with Asmo. I read the article and I'm skeptical (especially having tripped a dozen + times). I don't think it means anything we didn't know before. But yeah, altered state vs. higher state. I think it's has a potential like they're saying though, for use in therapy for a variety of psychological conditions.

The assumption made is that you are in a higher state of consciousness when you're in a psychedelic mind state. That seems reasonable to me. Visual and auditory perception is much more vivid, and thought patterns are hyper-sensitized and chaotic. I don't know what your question marks mean, whether you are doubting the higher state of consciousness part, or the link with neural activity.
