Actually that's been the law of the seasons since long before calendars were invented. Farmers traditionally go by it for planting & harvesting purposes, ancient civilizations used it to denote their seasonal doings etc

Watched the sunrise on the longest day barefoot in my local park, really nice seeing it come up while feeling the slightly damp grass underfoot. Couple of other people there too, one of them was also barefoot, though she did have shoes with her.

Walked home the long way round through the town centre, it's ok walking barefoot at that time in a morning, but I must admit it's more fun later in the day.

I'm sorry you choose to see it that way. I can understand how you wouldn't be aware of traditional seasons most societies haven't relied on that method in a very long time. 1st thru 20th is still spring & judging by the tremendous & beautiful amount of growth the land is still seeing I would have to agree with that assessment. In Australia, that is where you hail from if I recall correctly, the seasons may be different. I'm not sure about down there.

    No, it's still summer.

June 21 is the official first day of summer. But Memorial Day (last Monday in May) is the unofficial first day. It's weird and confusing.

that's the only definition of summer i've ever heard in my life. you might be the only person in the world to disagree.

While I wish I could still smoke I can't so you definitely can't include me in that assessment. :disappointed:

"In the northern hemisphere, the first day of the summer season is the day of the year when the Sun is farthest north (on June 20th or 21st). This day is known as the Summer Solstice.

"The declination of the Sun on the Summer Solstice is known as the tropic of cancer (23° 27'). In the southern hemisphere, winter and summer solstices are exchanged so that the Summer Solstice is the day on which the Sun is farthest south."

Here in the UK there’s meteorological summer which is 1st June to 1st September, then astronomical summer from the summer solstice to autumn equinox. It’s confusing, but going by the weather there’s a case for saying summer arrived in the UK in late April. Whatever your definition it’s peak barefooting season...enjoy
