Which do you all prefer to write?

I've always had a tendency to embellish. Now I've only written two books and a few stories that are true events that I was part of. And those were the most difficult of my writings because I felt it necessary to be completely truthful and not embellish anything.

When I write fiction it just seems to flow. I begin with a notion and have no idea where it's going or how it will end. It's almost like my hands are creating the story and I'm simply reading it on the monitor as it unfolds. When I get into the story, I seem to be able to type as fast as I can read.

I think nonfiction is easier to write. I dont really know why - I have no problem with making up a fictional story in my head but when I sit down to put it on paper I struggle. Whereas with nonfiction as long as i'm well educated on the topic the words just flow out.

Non fiction, but fiction can be fun, because you don't have to be precise.

One of my favorite short stories has always been 'odor of chrysanthemums', A story by DH Lawrence based on a true experience during his childhood living in a Welsh mining village. The final paragraph is a rare gem and shows so much feeling about life in those hard times.
Something such as that, rarely exists in fiction.

In case you have not read the book that I mentioned, this is the final paragraph.
    So typical of DH Lawrence.

    At last it was finished.
They covered him with a sheet and left him lying, with his face bound. And she fastened the door of the little parlour, lest the children should see what was lying there. Then, with peace sunk heavy on her heart, she went about making tidy the kitchen.
She knew she submitted to life, which was her immediate master. But from death, her ultimate master, she winced with fear and shame.

Physics, neurology, and sociology are my favorites, simply because they come closer to reality than other fiction.

I read a post here and it triggers a flashback, maybe from decades ago. It is as if the original scene is playing back in my mind in vivid color. Sometimes a flashback inspires me to write about it and post here.

The writing is like plagiarizing my own mind. I re-read to clarify and more clearly describe the people and the scene. Proofread, spell check and more often than not, delete it with a Like to the poster who inspired the memory.

Historic fiction? Is that the same thing as alternate facts?

Those who forget the past are destined to repeat it, those who remember the past are destined to wish they could forget it. History is for those who refuse to believe half of life never made any sense.

Mine has been acting up too. Something's going around. If I had to guess, the NSA is searching for whatever screwed up the internet. They even got Sony to build cameras into their TVs so they could watch anyone they wanted. The US decided to go all out on cyberwarfare and has enough money to make other countries look like amateurs, once they actually figure out what the fuck they are doing.
