Oh, Ramona! That is awful what happened to you! I could never imagine treating anyone like that...much less a sweet innocent child.
Oh, it's okay, I really don't think it's affected me too much since I got older...the saddest thing about it was they threatened us (the kids under their "care") with death threats and threats against our families. At that age (I was about 4), you're never sure of what can and can't hurt your family, and your family is all you have. So, my mom had no clue what was going on, she thought the bruises on my brother and I were from little accidents because we were both very clumsy children. But she walked in one day early after a doc's appt. and caught Barbara beating my brother for not taking his bottle. A very mad mama left with two very relieved kids and we never returned. She called CPS on them, but they called us liars and hung up the phone. Because we didn't have another adult witness, we had no case at all. Even sadder, if that were to happen today, CPS would probably have blamed it on my parents and put us into foster care. My parents have always been so loving (definitely not believers in the Ferber method, I can tell you that) and they would have never ever put us into any situation they thought was even close to dangerous. Barbara got the karma she requested, though, one of her sons murdered her. I'm not sure exactly how that story ended, but hers ended with an axe to the head. Rightly deserved if you ask me.
