Someone already pointed out Bill Gate's IQ Probably most of you know that Bill Gates is mildly autistic (Asperger's Syndrome) . It is suspected that Einstein had Asperger's, too.

In that case why feel threatened by the fact that genius may occur more frequently in males? I worry more about the larger number of boys with profound autism, learning disabilities and adhd. As was already discussed, giftedness is directly related to all of these conditions. Seems like a terrible price to pay for genius. (eta-not to say that this children are terrible in any way, they are sweet and gifts to there families. it's just that life can be so hard for them. they suffer higher incidence of depression, that's the high price to pay, What is genius worth if you can't be happy?)

I also believe that there are many forms of intelligence. There are many things to excel in. Mathematical/spatial intelligence is just one part.

Celtgrrl, great that you work with autistic children and feel you can relate to them even if it's only in the mildest way. I believe that there is a HUGE range of severity in autism. My boy displays autistic traits, but has yet to be diagnosed at 8 years old. It's obviously pretty mild, but he's done all the echolia and lining up toys (especially when he was a little younger, he's growing out of it a little) I might start a thread about this topic in Parenting, I'd love to get the opinions of people with experience in autistic spectrum disorders, especially you and maggie. I don't want to hijack this thread.

Sorry I didn't read your post and am in affect double posting,
1. issac newton is also getting the aspergers card along w\ da vinci
2. if your son wasn't diagnosed by 3 he won't be, it's a childhood disorder so you can't be officially diagnosed past 3 (that is why there is A.D.D. and adult A.D.D.) I found out later in life but had been diagnosed young, people lie, that's life
