In my opinion, Felt is one of the most underrated bands to come out of the UK in the early 1980s. When most people think of jangle pop, they think of The Smiths or R.E.M. While Felt didn't have a charismatic frontman like Morrissey, I believe that musically these guys were even better than The Smiths. I especially like their early albums featuring the classically trained guitarist Maurice Deebank, who is easily one of the most underrated guitarists ever. Just listen to some of the elaborate guitar work on these tracks. It's somewhat comparable to Tom Verlaine's (of Television) style of playing. Very intricate, ornate, stratospheric jangles on these tracks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4igJMkNBGQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-OUoO-8h7k
Kind of reminds me of The Go Betweens.Felt were a cool name to drop back in the early to mid 90's,but you can see they lacked the commercial appeal of The Smiths and REM.The guitar work is neat but I rate Johhny Marr and Peter Buck higher, even though I'm a little tired of them from over-exposure over the years.Do you know Ultra Vivid Scene PR? Worth checking out.
I love the Go-Betweens. 'Cattle and Cane' is an all-time favorite of mine. They don't remind me much of Felt, but were part of the same genre and did have some similarities in their sound. I am familiar with the name Ultra Vivid Scene, but haven't looked into any of their work, though I will based on your recommendation.
