I'm 27. I felt old yesterday when I thought I graduated HS 9 years ago. I also feel old when I'm around people that are 18-23. It doesn't really happen with kids. I feel old whenever I think that my idea of fun is hanging out with my family and just chilling, it's so different than what my idea of fun was 5-6 years ago.

Maybe its time to invest in nursing homes for 18 to 40 year olds.

I don't really buy into the myth that men age better than women. Men who take care of their bodies age well. Men that grow beer bellies and lose their hair just age.

I feel old when I look back at my older hobbies such as graphic design and it feels like yesterday yet it was 8 years ago..
However I think every new generation is growing up faster than the older one in terms of psychology so it could be a reason why many feel old at a young age.

I got carded for freaking cigarettes til I was 29 and looked really young until... I didn't anymore. lol. I don't know.. I think I'm too hard on myself at times but the gray hairs do bother me. I had them before I was 30 and I've found no dye yet that will cover them... it's not even A LOT...but it is enough.

I eat healthy. And I feel healthy. I just don't feel...young. Like mentally. It's not even altogether a bad thing. It's probably actually a good thing...although sometimes I see myself passing these college dorms that I drive by all the time and I look at these 20 yr olds sitting out in their lawn chairs and think "damn, I wish I was them...but nope, never gonna be...that...again"

I would recommend a memory foam pillow or do not sleep on the side of your face. I just had a nap (no, not an old persons nap in the afternoon) and there is a large crease down one side of my face. I think this is the reason we have creases down the side of our mouths as we get old. I bought an L shaped pillow, and I don't get it so much anymore. Plus, it's really snug to sleep with.

Serious question: does getting older have a detrimental effect old the old boy - you know, down there *cough*.

Happy Birthday, by the way :)

    Well, well! ^

    Happy Birthday, Joel! :D

Edit: Since men can father children into their 90's (has recently happened and was publicized)...and Joel still roofs, I'd bet all his "parts" still work. ;)

Haven't got enough sense to quit! No--really,once ya' hit the rocking chair-you're outta here. I have no belly,I can reach right down and touch my toes and the meat pickle still jumps up on command!! (now if I had some place to put it). Thanks so much for the wishes,folks--I appreciate it!!

It's been a good run-from the GREAT DEPRESSION, to the A bombs dropped,to the exciting times of the 60s 70s,to the beginning and maturation of Rock & Roll and all the offshoots of it,to maybe the best time to have lived in this country-the 50s,to the jungles of Hawaii and taking plenty of windowpane,to raising some great kids-etc-etc. Yeah,I've had it all from deepest pain to unbridled joy!! I'm a lucky old crack and I know it!!

It certainly puts life into perspective talking to a person who is twice my age.
This is not an insult, but a compliment.
I can't really complain about the trials of life, when most of it have been spent in relative calm.
I wouldn't really like to have been around when an A bomb dropped or there was a REAL 'Great depression'.
Thank You for putting things into perspective.

I hope you have a really nice day, and have lots of fun :)

P.S: I can just about touch my toes - for how much longer, who knows :D

    Good for you, sir.

Thanks Odon. That was kind and thoughtful. Physical activity is the key and I'll tell you why I think/know so. My family all had sedentary jobs-dad=banker. Dead at 57. Uncle=sold Buicks. Dead at 48. Cousin=pharmacist. Dead at 48. Mom=restaurant owner. Dead at 62. Etc.Etc. Diet also counts. The ones mentioned ate meat with every meal and drank a lot. Me=Veggie for years and very physically active. That's the way I see it,anyway. Hope this didn't sound like a lecture---JMO,really.

It didn't sound like a lecture at all. It's the slightly grim reality of life. I've been a veggie for 15 years, so hope that puts me on a good footing. I do drink and smoke too much - which I am altering. I am hoping it is not too late for me. I did take notice of the changes within me, and hope I am not one of those people that thinks they can live forever. I hope to live to a reasonable age. 74 would not be a bad start.
