I don't think I'm cultured enough for plays. Film has a way of breaking the barrier between real life and fake, while watching a play, I feel like I have to make the choice to buy into it. You know...the whole willing suspension of disbelief.

I'm a writer. I've written everything from non-fiction to short stories to novels that were so unimportant to me, I've lost them over the years. But, I am currently 11,000 words into a new novel. :) Back in that saddle!

Despite loving the written word, I have an appreciation for film because I find it to be the richest form of storytelling. When I write, I'm seeing visuals in my head; I'm listening to certain music. I'm incorporating visuals and sounds to put my in the correct frame of mind to properly convey an emotion or whatever it might be. And that's what film does: It uses performance, visuals, audio cues, spoken word, etc. to manipulate the audience into feeling a certain way. As a storyteller, this is very attractive to me.

With live theatre, there is a disconnect for me. It's the equivalent of someone reading to me.

I don't know. I love to read and I love film, but plays go over my head.

I think I want to try writing a screenplay...

Something about Vegas seems incredibly tacky to me. I've never been there, and I certainly don't want to offend any Vegas natives who call the place home, but it seems less like a city to me and more like an amusement park.

I hear ya about plays lol I like them as a change of pace because there’s no editing, it’s live and you either are ready or not. With film, there’s a lot of editing before we see the final result but I like both. I don’t like musicals too much but sometimes, I’m in the mood. To me, it’s part of the NYC experience. Now that my dad told me that we are part middle eastern, I want to see the middle eastern markets when I go back.

So, awesome you’re a writer! I like to write poetry thus my haiku thread.

If you become famous, don’t forget about us!

Thats exactly what it is. I've been once and didnt care for it. I dont like cities that are completely centered around tourism, I like cities that have a rich local culture and life I can delve into

I took a bus to the grand canyon while I was there and I remember the bus driver telling me 70% of Las Vegas residents work in the gambling or tourism industry. There isnt really anything to the city except that

I feel the same, plus it seems to be a lot about gambling, which isn't my thing.

I created this thread to badmouth and trash city life, but I guess it has turned into the "Share Your Top Cities and City Experiences" thread. Y'all win. I'm gone.

We just don't mingle with them folks from the town. They laugh at us farm folks and they put us all down. They all say they're from college but they don't seem to bright, the type of people who bring a switch blade to a pistol fight, like what are you doing around here, we don't like your kind boy, do I make myself clear, go and take your earring back where you belong, we don't like your kind so you'd better move on. Go and hit on the girls in your big city town, you better move on we ain't messing around.

Yeah, if I had the money to gamble, I'd rather go shopping with it.

Except that you trashed and badmouthed city dwellers.

That's why your thread has been commandeered.

It's just a little gratuitous misanthropy. It never hurt anyone.

It's 2018, anything you do has an implication to hurt another person.

Oh no, of course not. Misanthropy has never played a roll in--say--genocide.

There are roads here where the turns are so sharp, the roads practically jackknife.

We call that a handbrakey zone. That's where the only way to go around it fast is to rip up the handbrake and 180° around it.

Fuck that. I drive like a pussy. I'm the first to admit it.

Traffic round here can be so bad at times, that I'm in tears when I get home.

Lol well I don't do all the crazy stuff like that I'm a clean driver I do all the crazy on sims only. :) I just plonk around in my truck. You can have fun going slow lol. I pulled the handbrake up once when my mum was driving when I was a little kid. She said if I do that the whole car will flip and tumble. Then I remember she let me drive lol. My first drive on her lap as weooked for blackberry bushes.
