Ive always felt like I was born in the wrong time , but I think a lot of that is because of how harsh , uncaring and judgemental most people seem to be now. I work with lots of animal rights groups as well as gay rights, and homeless shelters, and the hard hearts and cruelty I fight against just makes me want to go back to a nicer , kinder time and place.

at least you know you arent the only one. lots of us want to experience the 60s. i listen to music from then, which takes me there psycologically. but what you could do is find someone like you. if you find the right person, you can experience the 60s love.
don't give up on your inner desire
    find the rest of us

Yeah it's hard in certain areas of the country. In Austin Tx you would see some old hippies all along Congress St.

I think "finding the others" involves finding those who share your values. Generally speaking, I think you find those folks in the country. At least, I do. (Online of course, you might find them anywhere.)

Folks who honour and appreciate Nature are my kind of people. I haven't found too many of them in big cities.

They're a rare breed. Everybody who lives near me is so materialistic. Even the kids that think they're hippies know nothing about politics and sole reason for wanting to class themselves as hippies is the drugs and clothing, even though their clothes are designer brands. Dumbasses.

There was no 'Golden Age'. There never has been. Look at the pop charts from the 1966-1970, the top songs were pop drivel.

1966: Ballad of the Green Berets
    1967: To Sir With Love
    1968: Hey Jude
    1969: Sugar Sugar
1970: Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head

Aside from one Beatles Song you have schlock. The whole 'Peace & Love' and 'Sex, Drugs and Rock n' Roll' thing was fringe. Mostly people got up and went to crappy jobs, got married and had kids. Most young people were not Acid dropping Hippies, and among those who did grow their hair and beards and drop acid, alot did it to go along. Later they cut their hair and cleaned up. Life is exactly what it is and extracting little nuggets of an imagined past to assuage the pain of an unfulfilling present is a hopeless and futile endeavor.

btw: I was a kid in the 1960's and have a degree in History from the University of Wisconsin. I spent a decade in one of the most radical cities in the US and got to know alot of old Hippies. Find Happiness today or just be miserable.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up. I was disconnected then and still are..... only difference is I don't sweat it now and, thus, have more fun.

The good news is that there is much hope for you. You haven't bought into the anger and fear yet, and you remain open enough to seek guidance.

You don't need to worry about fitting in, or what 'society' is up to. You don't need to move to another country. All the things you seek are within you. Be true to yourself.

You've heard the phrase from the movie 'Field of Dreams'... "Build it and they will come"? Let's apply that cool little phrase to ourselves. Let it have this meaning; work on building your character, your convictions, your soul, your strength and your love, and those whose company you seek will naturally gravitate towards you. Remember it's not the quantity of friends that is important, it is the quality.

Without a strong spiritual foundation, one is lost. Spiritualism is not about religion, it is about awareness. Of the world around you, of your connection to the universe. We are all made of stardust, we are all connected to everything there is. You must feel it, you must cultivate it. Do not lose that connection by putting too many things between yourself and the natural world. Things like ego, fear, anger, insecurity. The less you have between you and the now, the more aware you become.

I feel much compassion for the younger folks these days who don't have the support around you that we had in the 60's. Back then there were many of us on the path. These days not so much. But that doesn't mean all is lost. It's just more of a challenge. Meet that challenge with openness and honesty. Stay focused on positive energy. Stand in the rain of love and it will wash the negativity away.

Time is not linear, it is spherical. Past, present and future is a four dimensional sphere. The 60's are still happening on another point around the Wheel. Everything that has ever happened, and everything that has yet to happen, is happening now.

When we are in a higher state of consciousness, whether it be through psychedelics or meditation, we can feel the vibrations of things around us. Molecules vibrate. Each and every object has it's own frequency. The Native Americans knew this and called these vibrations 'spirits'. To them, everything was alive and had it's own spirit, even rocks and sand. Science is now proving all this to be correct. The natural wisdom of the ancient shamans encompasses all the answers that science seeks.

Connect yourself to these vibrations and all the rest will fall into place. Look for the center of the universe and find your place on the Wheel, and you will find you are not alone.

    Peace.

I'm sorry you strayed from the path and sold out. It's a sad thing to see so many like you who have given in to the cynicism and fear of the status quo, and embraced the caste system of the material world.

Do not ridicule love. It is possible to attain wisdom without losing the purity of innocence. Remember it is never too late to find hope again. The Wheel is infinite, you can get back on anytime if you can find the courage to cast aside the judgment of those who have lost their way.

    Peace.

THIS IS WHY I'M MOVING lol it's quite funny you say that.

To be honest, there has always been people who want to live in the past. They feel as if they don't belong in this era and they want the lifestyle people had before them. Deep down I think everyone has a time era in which they wish they had lived in - but in reality we are part of this era, and we need to make the best of it!

Say if you ask your grandparent who grew up in the 60s if they thought they lived through the greatest time period - I bet you 9 times out of 10 they would say no, and say why and the problems they had to go through. They'd state a time period way before theirs that they consider their "Golden Age" and how it would of been way better.

So many people aren't content with the era they live in, and wish for the past. We're nostalgic and it can get somewhat depressing. Every era has its ups and downs - and I know this one seems real real shitty... but I bet people in the 60s felt the same way.

We just gotta live with what we got, because sooner or later it'll be considered the past and as you grow up you'll start to hear people say "Ugh, I wish I grew up during the 90s, you're so lucky to have been alive during that decade".

There was a lot of things better about the 90s and the millennium decade. The teens decade has come to a crap start though just the 3rd year into it.

@mistymorninghop. Go to any small town in America and you can know what the '60s felt like. Being harrassed for having long hair, chased by cars full of rednecks and always having the cops ask you if you've got any dope. Hippies were the minority then too. It wasn't all Peace and Love. These posts make me a little grumpy.
