haha.....I am certainly not trying to backpeddle.
I dont really care that much...this is so stupid. But I will give you a quote from a University of Utah study called " why we lack spare ribs" which is a study on among other things....mice.
It says "during the evolution of vertebrate animals ancestral genes gained new uses, including suppressing development of extra ribs which allowed the animals to move with greater flexibility to escape predators".
Which probably explains why last winter when I tried to catch the fatass mouse hanging in my kitchen, I saw him slip through a crack much smaller than his body.
Listen, this is soooooo stupid. But if you want to tell me I am wrong then go find some info that says so....untill them it remains just your opinion. You said you want to "clarify the facts".....so where are they?

Oh man, you should just stop before you make yourself look more foolish (if that's possible). That study shows how mammals lack snake-like ribs. Mammals of course include HUMANS! So according to you we can fit through spaces much smaller than our bodies. ???? In fact, mice have one more rib than humans, we only have twelve. Your theory is crumbling. As is your logic. Sorry to be the bearer of this news.
Here's the link to the study for those who want to see where her twisted logic stems: study that does not support her

You stated with conviction that mice did not have bones and then pretended to have omitted the "obvious", -that you were only refering to their ribs. Right. Seriously, I would just admit to the error, you'll feel better.

Yep. Humans are at the top. I give more complex and highly evolved creatures more moral consideration than more simplistic ones. Not as whole species, but as individuals.

Wow, you really take this shit seriously dont you?
Well, when I said "mice dont have bones" I was thinking in my head about the lack of ribs they have. I shouldve been more precise I suppose.
I still believe that those lack of ribs are how mice can squeeze into spaces much smaller than their bodies. And where have you prooven that is wrong? I didnt say anything about humans at all. I dont really care enough to keep argueing with you over something so damn stupid.
But you are right about one thing....how dare I mislead people with the gospel of missing mouse bones:rolleyes:

I do take it seriously, I've had many mammalogy courses and bones are used to indentify one species from another. I would be very concerned if you taught your children that mice didn't have bones. "Mice don't have bones" is much different than "mice don't have ribs similar to snakes". I fail to see how you could forget to specify.

If mice had the primitive ribs in the study you mentioned, it would not prevent them from fitting into small spaces, the ribs would get progressively smaller as you travel down the spinal column, like a snakes. They would be no hinderance.

Who cares if you didn't mention humans, I did because we have the same rib anatomy of a mouse, minus one rib, which according to you should make us even better able to fit through small spaces.

In order for an object to fit into a space smaller than itself, the object itself must be smaller than the space. There's no getting around it.

You've made an embarrassing mistake, but continue to deny its importance if it makes you feel better.

Ah you are right...I am sooooo embarrased! And being right in the eyes of some person (who cant even make a point without being a smartass:p) I dont know...on the other end of a computer.....well that just makes me feel better. You know how I "forgot to specify"? I dont give that much of a shit about it. I dont care about being precise on a stupid website. But thanks for teaching me the importance of it! I have seen with my own eyes a fat FAT mouse who slipped through a space much smaller than itself. Ah...we could just keep going and going.....have a good night.

A smartass? Well as opposed to a dumbass, I'm not offended.
I don't expect you to be embarrassed (well you are 23, maybe I should), I do take the subject seriously and therefore I would be embarrassed to make such an error.
A stupid website huh, well you're here aren't you, you must be partial them.

A mouse that slipped through a space much smaller than itself you say? Wow a mouse that defied physics!! That must have been quite a phenomena to view! Maybe it was a magic mouse[IMG][IMG]

Hey, did any of you know that mice can't really hurt themselves when they fall, because they can regulate the speed they fall at :) ... 'No bones', speed control when falling, I think mice are pretty much supermen!

As for the cat thing... If it was a large type of snake that in the wild would be able to take a deer down, then I guess it's no crueller than part of nature. However, you'd have to kill the cat first because it is illegal to feel live vertebrates to any animal.
Some of what's been said in this thread is nasty stuff :s

lol. Your ever so quick-witted insults continue.....wow, you just keep prooving over and over how intellegent you are. :p Yes, a mouse that slipped through a space smaller than itself.Actually the fact that mice can fit through spaces smaller than themselves is a simple fact that is easily found on the internet. Go look. Quite the phenomena? Not really, but I wish it was something you couldve seen.....maybe one day you will be blessed with the presence of a "magic mouse" in your kitchen.
And yes, this website (or any for that matter) is just stupid enough that I really dont take it very seriously. But arguing nonsense with bitchy people gives me something to do at this late hour. Thanks.

What insults? I think you might be delirious at this point, oops is that an insult?
You've called me a bitchy smartass, but I'm not crying about it. Others in this thread have called you a retard, I think I've been mild.

This mouse, according to you, did something physically impossible. What drugs were you on at the time? They may have altered your perceptions of the mouse's activity.[IMG]
You must have failed Biology, am I right?

Why dont you go look up what Ive said before you keep running your mouth. At this point you are just sounding like an idiot. Mice can fit through spaces smaller than their body.....google it...or something. I dont expect you to cry about anything....do you think I care really? You seem to. But incase you care about wheter or not I am laughing....yeah, you are amusing. Shall we continue? I assume you are having just as much fun as these forums seem kinda dead right now. Seriously though, if you care so damn much about whether or not a mouse can fit into a space smaller than itself...then why dont you go look it up instead of wasting your time talking to me. I guarentee you, it's a fact. Maybe all mice are "magic".

I looked back in the thread and saw you actually said twice that mice don't have bones. ha ha
I've seen many skeletons of the 13 native murids in my state as well as the 3 non-native arrivals and the mice and voles and shrews have very small skeletons. The common house mouse can fit through an opening of about 1/4", but that is not smaller than it's skeleton. The limiting factor is the head(skull) and that is very small and streamlined. The ribs have nothing to do with it.

Obviously (as I have said already) I did mean a lack of bone structure....I wouldve maybe been more right on about it if I had known someone gave so much of a shit as to strike up an arguement. Wow. As for the rest of it, we will just have to agree to disagree. That's it.

I like FreakyJoeMan's view on it. Maybe because he agrees with me.

You already said it was too late because the kittens are too big now. I think the solution is to not have a pet that eats live animals. Like snakes are good pets anyways, and I'm sure they really enjoy living in an aquarium or whatever. It pisses me off some the animals people choose as pets, so selfish. Anyone that can send a kitten down a snake's throat is messed up. Or even a mouse.

    it's not my snake.

And just because the kittens are too big now dosent mean that the topic is any less debatable.

I guess if you feel like that i will just feed them to the rotweilers across the street.

My local pet center has is giving away baby snakes of various kinds because they have too many. Can I feed them to my tiger? I think that's what I'll do. I think he can use them as toys too before they die from torture, no?

This thread was fucking stupid. Metro, you won, she does'nt know what she's talking about. To the girl that said that it's illegal to feed one alive animal to another... are you sure about that? Cause I don't think snakes will eat rats and mice if they're already dead, unless they killed it.

I simply expect people to not keep them as pets. In the wild sure they can eat mice, etc. Animals are not here just for our entertainment.

Look, if you believe as Freakywhatever_his_name_is does then I think both of you should volunteer yourselves as food for some zoo animals. There are lots of hungry lions and tigers that would love to munch on you. Feeder humans, marvelous idea.

Back to the lab, I agree.
