"As your attorney I advise that you rent a fast car with no top"
"...And you'll need the cocaine" lol

WOW! they're making Rum Diaries? ..and w/Depp? sweeeeet ^^

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is freakishly inspiring to me. sadly, the story is very exaggerated... says H.S.T himself... he's not even sure exactly what happend.

first off, i cant believe you havent seen Lord of The Rings!!!! AHHHH . that blows my mind, ha.

but, once you read Fear and Loathing after having seen it it reads incredibly fast, cause you have Johnny Depp in your head, speeding with the language. so intense.

i think this is line from book:

"My heart feels like an Alligator!" (it might be a croc)

haha. damn right. If you get a chance to find the special edition dvd watch the bbc documentary of Thompson and Ralph Steadman, his animator (incredible artist) it is the funniest damn shit. Did you know that Thomson ran for public office? He also has one of the most interesting and intricate burial plans. INCREDIBLE! DIG MAN DIG THIS!!!!

Oh, and after reading the other posts, it seems like you guys think that the glory of drugs are shown through this movie- now granted some drugs are wonderful. To say so myself, i think pot is mind numbing- however it piques your appreciation for little things, like colors, which we take for granted and can always appreciate- it also makes you dull for a while, which is understandable because you just wanna chill. But once you smoke everyday for two and a hoalf years you start to see that it just isnt worth it- nothing is left. Coke makes you go off, and is wonderful for a time, but on my come downs i always feel like it never mattered- i could have talked a plan to someone about saving the world, but once i am down, i will have to face the realization that i am farther from that person than anyone in the world---- shit i should stop, my reactions arent the same, but i do love acid and shrrommmies but only once in a while, and for the benefit of cleansing my soul and breaking down attachments, and just to laugh heartily. But i drink too much.....

anyhow... if you recall the scene where (ha) thompson smokes crack at his type writer and is discussig how the time period is fallin g apart, dying, already rolled back (does anyone remember the "high watter mark" line, the place where the wave finally broke and rolled away?) well that mixed with his comment on Leary getting these kids thinking they can buy piece of mind for three bucks a hit. Well, thompson is basically a social commentor, and luckily he reports what he knows and would never act like he understood something (like many socialists/ politicians/ and the part of society who lives in fear) which is why i think he does a wonderful job documenting the time period in the little thing called Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas!

i hope i didnt do anything to annoy anyone i just had to help some people see this aspect of the film drug from his book

I think the point of the movie is to show some of things that went wrong with the idealism that defined the late 60s.
With that said, the movie is a funny, intelligent hoot (I can't believe I used that word).
I love the scene where Del Toro is struggling to get off that Merry-Go-Round. Great stuff.
"What Leary took down with him was the central illusion of a whole life-style that he
helped create...a generation of permanent cripples, failed seekers, who never
understood the essential old-mystic fallacy of the Acid Culture: the desperate
assumption that somebody--or at least some force--is tending that Light at the end
of the tunnel." -From the book "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" by Hunter S. Thompson

I agree with Tisbutename. The point in the movie where he describes the late 1960's has such a powerful impact. I have this movie and this scene never fails to give me chills or bring a tear to my eye. The ending comments on Leary are very powerful words too. I recommend anyone who watches the movie for laughs or for the drug use to sit back and take in the message that Thompson is trying to get across. Even if you disagree with his views ( and a lot of people do) it is still worth learning
