It was my intro too. =D Up until that it was mostly horror, then my dad brought down some old books from the loft and that got me started on sci-fi. =D
My intro to SF was through TV (e.g. Dr Who) and comics like The Eagle, which is why I listed Terry Nation (creator of the Daleks) and Frank Hampson (creator of Dan Dare) among my faves. I guess I should have included Gerry Anderson, in recognition of Fireball XL5 and Stingray.
Robert A. Heinlein Robert Silverberg Philip K Dick HG Wells Arthur C Clarke twilight zone anyone know ark ii The Girl From Tomorrow Gemini Factor ?
Ok now actually I think first I was reading conan comics and then figured the novels gave me a lot more bang for the buck then came across the burroughs in the bookstore as they had similar covers, that was the actual progression I think. Man I'd like to get ahold of all those old robert howard conans done by what's his name...oh, I'm quitting coffee lol and my brain feels like a cork; he doesnt' have an easy name to remember but did the illustrations for the first original ones. Ah, Barry Windsor Smith. Yeah! (Got about 10 more babylon5's coming, those are ok tv watching.)
My favorite science-fiction writers are Ray Bradbury, Philip K. Dick, and Arthur C. Clarke. Tough guys to beat. ____________________ Felrose Download the Hummer H1 Catalog

Thanks for the list of Russian writers, will look into them...I love scfi, books and film, will probably be on this thread alot. I want to tell Kurt Vonnegut Jr. hello out there in the universe buddy! You rocked, we miss you, and thanks for all the far-out books. Love you Kurt. Almost too much! Say hi to the Tralfamadorans for me!
No problemo And don't forget about Pole: Stanislaw Lem - he died one year ago. He written 'Solaris' and 'Memoralias lost in the bath' - he is known now as a biggest Pole after Pope and Czeslaw Milosz - poet. Oh yes. There is also Sapkowski with 'Wiedźmin' saga. He writes in a bid older Polish language so probably was difficult to translate. But here it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Witcher
You are obviously well-read, I shall be watching for your posts. One of my favorites is Robert L. Forward, he is an American physicist and author. He wrote a great book about possible life on a nuetron star called "Dragons Egg", about a team of human scientists observing a nuetron star that make contact with the inhabitants, who live a super fast life because of the accelerated spin of the star, and are about the size of sesame seeds, fighting the gravity...it's really good...
Arthur C. Clarke died today. He wrote 2001, Childhoods End and invented the communications sattilite. Farewell Arthur. Thank you.

ha! don't mean to. but if i was to put them in alpha order i'd probably think of twice as many and probably run of of room to list them all in one post. of course THEN i'd have to stop and think a minuet for some of the letters. and i think there's probably a couple i wouldn't be able to think of anyone for. but only a couple. i don't read mainstream, westerns or romance/soap operas. i do read mysteries and fantasy occasionally. but MOST of my fiction reading is science fiction. =^^= .../\...
To another of my favorites: Atthur C. Clarke (12/16/17 – 3/19/2008), Thank You and R.I.P. Peace, poor_old_dad
