When I was little I basically read dog, and horse stories. Greyfriars Bobby, Bob Son of Battle, King of the Wind, Black Stallion that sort of thing. I also went through all the Landmark biographies in my local library. The biographies really gave me a head start in my history classes, plus they were fun to read. The first real book I read as a kid was the Secret Garden....and I loved it. I had bad tonsils and had to spend a month at home one winter. My mom gave me a copy of it and I never looked back. Up until that time it had all been picture books.

Later when in my twenties I went to work at the library and discovered all those great books you guys are talking about. Narnia, Wind in the Door, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Boxcar Children, Susan Cooper, Little House on the Prairie, the Outsiders. There are great books out there for kids today. I wait right along with the kids for the latest Harry Potter.

The Australian books about Snugglepot & Cuddlepie were my absolute favorites! Did anyone else read these?
