I’m not sure if Avatar counts because it’s made in Canada.

The first anime series I watched in full was Samurai Pizza Cats. Though I don’t really think that counts either. The reason why is because the people in Canada who dubbed the show didn’t have the Japanese scripts and didn’t understand Japanese, so they just made up their own shit to fit what was going on on screen.

One reason I really liked that show was that there were a lot of inappropriate jokes that kids wouldn’t understand. For example: the main villain was flamboyantly homosexual. In one episode, a girl in the show (Lucille) was getting off the subway. The narrator for the show said “And Lucille made a new friend.” And then Lucille said to the unseen friend “My place or yours?” Also, one of the girls (Polly) wore a sexy outfit and as she walked away, another girl simply said “Tramp”. There was also an episode where the villain got this doll that he thought would improve his luck and make him rich. However, the doll instead made him homeless and the villain got so desperate he went to find a bridge to jump off of and commit suicide. My favorite and the best episode is called “Speedy’s Double Time Trick” I posted the vid of that episode below. Enjoy!

This came out in the 60s, and I used to watch it on tv when I was in Japan. I love the intro, and yes, it seems strikingly similar to Disneys Lion King:

If we're talking about series, I like Girls und Panzer, Maid Sama, Drifting Dragons, and Cells At Work.
As far as feature films, nothing will ever top Your Name. But a few honorable mentions go to Spirited Away, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and From Up On Poppy Hill.
