Eric Johnson is cool, but some of his stuff gets a little Honkie Tonkie for me I recorded a crappy version of Cliffs Of Dover once for a college audition. That was pretty fun. Sigur Rós ---> Starálfur

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=985JGeGq_tc We had one of these threads a few months back... and HushBull introduced this amazing song to me. When you sniff a gagger or are nodding nicely, listen to this and prepare to be blown away.
I love Rachmaninov. any of the piano concerti, but 2 is always my favorite, followed closely by 3. if anything, just listen to the first movement of the second concerto. it is fucking amazing.
Quite hypnotic! I can see why that would work well with opies. That's the first or second song I've heard from them. Maybe I should give them more of a chance. Sorry, I've got to say that 3 wins IMO. I'm still getting adapted to the rest, although I've listened to them a few times. 3 just blows my mind every time... wonderful wonderful wonderful piece of music there. Hey, I think I'm going to listen to no 2 tonight though... you've convinced me to give it another go Do you have a preference to a certain performance? I've got Abbey Simon & the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. My favorite performance of no 3 though is Argerich! WOW she can play! It's ridiculous, she even blows Horowitz out of the water. EDIT: just gave it a listen, and damn that was good. I was reading online while listening though... sorry Rach But yea I love how his concertos end haha.
I rather like the Rachmaninov plays Rachmaninov recordings. I also love the London Symphony Orchestra & André Previn recordings, particularly for the 2nd concerto. there is a lot of great horn stuff going on in that recording of the 2nd concerto, which I dig since I'm a horn player myself :]. I'll definitely have to check out the one you mentioned though. I always think that the differences in interpretation are interesting to hear. good stuff. it's just beautiful music. I never get tired of it.
